Honestly they are one of the core reasons why this expansion doesn’t feel good to play. I wish they just made them flavor content that you joined for RP or mog reasons, for.menit would be mog reasons. Yet the abilities just are supremely broken, especially mind games when you pair it with UA. With it shoe horning players that min max into specific covenants, mainly mythic raiders and key pushers.
I hope in the next expansion they don’t add some borrowed power system like this again. They never work, and it always leads to extremely sloppy balancing and clear cut metas.
But it’s here for SL anyway. I don’t see myself switching any of my toons the whole expac though because regrinding everything can get bent.
Should have just chosen the same covenant on all my toons and pretended like it was the expansion’s main hub instead of Oribos and like the other covenants didn’t exist.
It’s fun upto a certain point, like for instance it’s fun when I dot healers up with UA’s and watch them die when they dispel. Yet the core issue is it’s not fun to the recipient, and its a complete gimmick honestly with mind games added on. That just ensures that every minute you have a burst window and can force healer CD’s rapidly. That doesn’t feel good given the whole let down of mind games in PvP is it can be dispelled. Yet thanks to aff you can’t dispel it without having to use CD’s to ensure you and your teammate don’t die, nor are you both in danger when the silence hits you.
In PvE honestly it’s just as bad given how absurdly broken they make mages and druids. Overall their just a version of corruptions, that are going to take the entire expansion not balance out. Along with dealing with all the other borrowed power systems their going to add for each major patch that will only make things worse.
Edit: I should add I always felt like it was completely out of control with how aff’s dispel works in PvP. In which I think it needs a nerf to the damage it does given it smacks for about 22k at times. Should only do half that as a crit TBH.
I thought that they should just be disabled for instanced content. Doesn’t break Arenas, M+, Mythic Raids. It’s just a cool thing you can do out in the world, like zone abilities from Draenor, Argus, etc.
Granted, getting deleted in War Mode isn’t fun either…
Actually, after adapting each expac for new words for the same thing (sort of,) I like them. I joined the two Covenants I wanted and ran with it - of course I don’t do m++++ dungeons so there’s that.
They’re even kinda terrible for RP…I don’t think we’ve ever had an expansion that just outright took away mogs we’ve worked to get… telling us what we can or can’t wear. #pull the ripcord #unleash trans-covenant cross mogging…
The expansion should have had the four zones with four questlines and then you should have been free to work further on any of the four factions you felt like, gaining the rewards from any of them that you put the work into.
Imagine if in MoP each character had to choose between being able to work on only one of The Anglers, The Tillers, Order of the Cloud Serpent, or Lorewalker; and if you decided to switch you lost all the previous progress in another. That’s not an equal comparison I know, but the idea of gating off 75% percent of the fluff content for each character is an absurd waste for both players and devs.
Uhhhhhhh fire was not S tier at the start of BFA if I remember correctly. Fire for a long time only became A tier after a couple major patches of borrowed power. With the latter being abilities that reduce their combustion CD on demand. Compared to now where their starting out with a combustion CD reducer, which is what is making them broken right now. Otherwise the spec is really bad when combustion is on CD, and only comes into play when CD:s reducers are available.
