I Will Not Play Classic WoW If You Layer It

If you want to “shard” the like 1 - 10 zones for a week or two of Classic WoW, I don’t care. It’s whatever. If it helps with competition and server congestion go for it. No one cares.

But this “layering” idea is absolutely ridiculous. You’re layering EVERY zone? For an indeterminate amount of time? Are you freaking insane? Do you understand what this means?

So say you have a 200-person Real ID list…
P1: “Yo, anyone have any Rich Thorium up in your Silithus?”
P2: “Yeah bro, tons. No one is here”
P3: “Tons. Rode past like 3 just now, hop over”

Do you know why Arcanite Weapons are so desirable? The relative rarity and cost of acquisition. If you can just infinitely farm Rich Thorium by cycling through hundreds of layers with an organized RealID group this literally destroys the market on Arcane Crystals and by-proxy irrevocably upsets P1 server economy WHICH IS HALF OF THE END-GAME EXPERIENCE.

Replace Rich Thorium with… Devilsaurs? Black Lotus? AoE-farming spots in EPL?

P1: “Dudes, my Tanaris pirate cove is LOADED. Anyone have an empty layer for me?”
P2: “Inviting”
P3: “Mine has like 1 Alliance here. Come on over”

Do you appreciate what this does? At all?

One of my fondest Classic WoW memories was my Horde guild setting up “ambushes” for our biggest Alliance rival guild in Blackrock Mountain at 6:00pm on Tuesday nights… We knew they’d be amassing to raid and we would get a 30-40man group and “hide” inside and ambush them when they rode in. After like 2 weeks they would come “prepared” for our ambush and we’d have these epic PvP fights. They sort of had to… or else not raid…

But with “layering” what stops this guild from sending in a rogue and seeing the “ambush” and just swapping to another layer? Have you considered the impact this has on a server’s culture? Community? Economy? This is madness.

I will not come back to Classic WoW if you layer the entire world indefinitely because it’s not Classic WoW. You might as well just make a P-60 guild on retail. Hey, add some LFG functionality, Blizzard. Might as well, right? Both of the buddies I’ve spoken to about this since arriving home have also indicated they want nothing to do with “layering”.

I’m just one dude and you don’t care about me and I totally understand that. But the community you have that could make Classic really succeed doesn’t want this and won’t tolerate it. This solution panders to a crowd that won’t stick around anyway. The people that understand the ramifications of “layering” won’t play, and the type of people that don’t care (or even support it) won’t be staying anyway…

P.S. INB4 “It’s only for like a week dude, chill.” I don’t believe that for a moment.

You got it all wrong. Layering is good. Now all we need to LFR, Transmog, Garrisons, Heirlooms, and my wife’s boyfriend will finally be able to enjoy the game.

You don’t need to. If you don’t want layering, wait till its removed.

If you want to play, layering will be a thing. If you want to be constructive, discuss ways to limit that hopping so that its less effective, less easy, and less worthwhile.

Every single person who currently has their jimmies a-rustling over Layering will be playing Classic.

Every single one.

The damage to the server economy is permanent even if they remove it 2 months in.

My jimmies a rustling.

It doesn’t affect me one bit if you decide not to play classic. I’m all in and gonna enjoy myself.

For every one that quits, I’ll sub twice.

The wall just got 10 feet higher.

Oh good. Another layering thread. All these doom and gloom scenarios over something that will likely not last longer than a few weeks. It’s not permanent.

Here we go again.
If it’s a dealbreaker for you then don’t play.

I am personally fully for layering because with it there is a better chance for healthy long term server populations.
All the minor negative sides of it are inconsequential and after the initial launch rush is over and layering is gone nobody will ever remember it was even there.

It’s not an indeterminate amount of time. They literally said it’s temporary and will end by the time P2 rolls out at the latest.

Neat, another of the same post that’s been posted all day. /yawn

How long until P2? That’s right, we don’t know. Another word for that is “indeterminate”. And the ramifications are permanent. The farmed time-gated materials by way of hopping layers don’t magically disappear when they end “layering”. Are all those Heartseekers and Arcanite Reapers and Devilsaur sets going to be removed from inventories? Of course not, dude.

All day? There will be 3 months of these posts.

good if something so minor makes you mad im glad you arent gonna be playing… you are clearly a toxic player the server could do without anyway

I really don’t see myself playing Classic, because I had done it the first time around. I feel each expansion made the game better. It no longer feels like it needs to be a second full-time job. We have LFD and LFR so everyone can play dungeons and raids, so they experience the full story as well.

I understand some people feel the game needs to be harder, and that’s why there are multiple levels of various content now.
