I remember about a month or two ago I was blasting blizzard for needing to make a new class or I was going to be done with WoW. The thought of another expansion with the same twelve tired classes just wasn’t gonna cut it as a reason to spend the money.
Then, I was SUPER disappointed when blizzard missed the mark by making evoker a non-tank class. Seriously…how long have people been complaining about not having a mail-wearing tank?! It’s a huge–and lazy–mistake on their part for not making it. I don’t care that the dracthyr are supposed to be lithe creatures. THEY’RE DRAGONS.
But, the more I thought about it, the more I realized…even a new class isn’t going to be enough. Ultimately, what we’re talking about here is a reskin of the same ~12 abilities literally every class has, just with new visuals.
Blizzard needed to make a new role in Dragonflight to keep this franchise going. What that looks like…I honestly don’t know. A utility class; a support role–something that goes beyond the extant mash buttons to kill thing, taunt to keep aggro, or ride the rollercoaster of health for stupid people who don’t understand why fire hurts.
My predicition is Dragonflight is gonna do amazing up front, but crater fast because there’s not going to be anything authentic.
New role huh. I think HOTS had them…specialist? Yeah I think that was the name. I vaguely remember that demon from act 3 of Diablo 3 being one. And the Siege tank.
Yeah HotS has Tanks, Bruisers, Healers, Melee/Ranged “Assassins” aka DPS, and Support heroes. They moved specialists away from that into one of those categories.
It’s definitely not the same genre, but Division had tank, dps, heals, and enhancement/support. You could spec into a role that strengthened your group at the expense of not really being great at anything else.
I just can’t imagine many people staying around another 2 years with the same old stuff. It feels like the “end of expansion” lull is getting longer and longer.
I think a Support role sperate from the Healing role would be extremely interesting for the game but I’d assume it would largely not go over well as you would need to at least rework a few existing specs into Support specs rather than what they are now and reevaluate how dungeons and raids are handled as they’re all balanced with Tank/DPS/Healer in mind
Try selling the playerbase a class where the whole point is just to make other people look good while being able to do next to nothing yourself like that.
Sure, and that’s something they could definitely figure out. My point was less with what I think they should do, and more about what they are choosing to do likely not being enough, in my opinion.
I’m betting talent trees are gonna end up getting watered down and the min-maxxers will inevitably find the “optimal” tree builds. Professions are going to end up getting made superfluous again because blizz can’t have you being able to craft BiS gear easier than getting it off a raid boss.
Blizz needs to release more features other than, “hey, you can befriend and ride a dragon!” (Um, okay, I already do that) and “guys, dracthyr! Cool, right?!” before I decided if 10.0 will tank or not.
As it stands now, though, my hype for this expansion just isn’t there.
Didn’t buy SL and thank god I did’t don’t believe one word that comes out of Blizzard. They say one thing and do another this game is for carries for people to buy tokens now. Ruined this once amazing game Blizzard has.
However, Blizz has made a new tank as recently as Legion. There has never been a ranged DPS added into the game, and we haven’t had a new healer since MoP and that healer turned out to be the… monk, which I can’t even respect as a class.
Blizz addressed the most important needs of the game.
