I was told Classic is more about community

But here I'm seeing people complain about retail "tourists" coming into their game. Should I expect this type of elitist behavior actually in-game?
Yes. This is the Internet. Where have you been?
Community only comes after hefty gate keeping and a smug sense of superiority for some.

You definitely shouldn't expect it from everyone, but it was always a possibility back then and it will continue to be in the future.

Just relax, try and have fun, be positive and polite, and you're likely to find people more than happy to return the favor.

Ignore them. Hopefully they all get weeded out eventually. No, we're not all elitist @#$%.
I don't mind retail players...I am technically one...but I am not going to like the token selling since they will be on the same sub.
There's going to be people like that anywhere. Even in vanilla there were people that treated you that way if you started playing 5 months after vanilla started and not right at launch. There are also going to be people who are very helpful and encouraging to new players. It's the internet, they're both going to happen. You'll just have to look for the right guild to join.

...and Barrens chat will undoubtedly be torturous.

There has been and will always be people with elitist mentality.

Any game you play, this will be the case, Classic is strong with them.

Expect it from both directions.
I suppose this is a matter of definition.

Classic was not some sort of sacred oasis on the internet where people were all friendly to each other. The people were the same as everywhere else.

The community was better in the sense that game mechanics forced communication, teamwork, and identity. We'll recognize someone is a retail tourist or elitist scum, remember who they are, and work around or with them as we see fit. This forms a culture, rather than ignoring the matter entirely.
I'd much rather socialize with "tourists" than these elitist pricks crying about a shared subscription.
You better get on back down to Retail where ya belong!
From what I have seen on this forum in the past there are gonna be even more pretentious douchebags In the classic game than in the retail version.

Did they say token selling would be in Classic? That seems like a pretty big assumption if not. It would completely change everything with the economy.
Just wait until another guild steals your tank you spent weeks gearing up. The community has always been bad.
Tourists=/=community
The private server freeloaders are a tiny tiny unproductive part of the WoW community not to mention the most negative. Just don't pay any attention to their bullying posts. Yes Classic will be fun with a strong community just like it was back in the day, see you there!

If you're complaining about class balance, the game being too hard, etc, then yes.

The issue with retail gamers is their attitude. They will bring addons like dps meters or gearscore, they will deny casuals access because they are not leet enough...

At original Vanilla, nobody cared about your DPS; talent choices or gear. It was about you as a player and this you won´t find at current WOW anymore.

even if it was serperate but lower sub, or a one time buy, it would still be like that. since you can turn in a token for b.net balance.

It's not elitist behavior.

The negative sentiment is because the game will have an influx of retail players who want nothing to do with classic. You can figure out why they'll be there.
