MM Hunter and like DANG! that’s some numbers on the board man. I was feeling decent, especially if I am with a DH (for their buff) and/or a priest, and/or a Aug, pumping me one way or another, but without any of those assists I am just in awe of what Hunter damage looks like right now, like I think I was around 250K overall and he was around 500-600K overall with some bursts on groups that ran into the 1.5M range. On Single Target I was still tops, but fort week doesn’t favor ST. I hope as I climb the ladder in gear this sort of evens out, but dang it’s crazy right now.
Ive been putting up numbers similar to the hunter since i got some upgrades after reset.
The problem now is other people got gear too, so theyre doing 700k overall and 2m+ on trash lol.
Arcane needs some serious aoe buffs.
Outlaw rogues, demonology warlocks, and to a less extent ret paladins are basically untouchable. Especially in keys like AA and BH where theres a ton of small mobs to pad meters.
Arcane AoE is just too …you know… if you do not get any procs during your window it makes you question why you are even in the key.
I’ve finally started getting into 8s and 10s and I’m feeling WAY BEHIND now. I’m like, wow am I just bad…maybe…idk even fire mage roasted me in DPS (we had an Aug on the team and I think fire benefits a little more then arcane).
Trying to figure out what’s my gap to fill. Ilvl of course (still sub 510), but maybe I’m running wrong stats? One big factor for me is death. I can’t take a single hit or dead, so maybe I start getting more Vers gear to help with that.
I ran 27% vers when i started 10s. Mostly because of gear rng. Ive been able to optimize it a bit more lately. I usually never die, even now with around 17% vers.
Are you using your entire toolkit?
Blastwave and dragonsbreath should be macro’d to a mouse click so theyre easy to use. You can knock back and disorent mobs to prevent damage from going out. Frost nova and the ranged nova we get are also helpful to prevent mobs from jumping or charging. The frogs in av come to mind, and the mana snakes in AA. You can prevent a lot of damage from happening.
Personal sheild + alter time is insanely over powered for abilities that one shot or close to one shot you. Third boss in uld does a crushing stomp, or last boss uld does a wing buffet, stomp 1st boss av, tree boss in AA, bird boss in AA (screech), honest almost every single boss has something. Use your personal sheild then alter time, get hit for 80% od your health and snap back to full.
Mirror images also reduce damage taken by 20%. If you are worried about surviving the big hit with only your personal sheild before using alter time, use mirror images.
Icey cold reduces damage by 70% and basically heals you to full. I hold this as long as i can. You can cheese a big mechanic, or its great in places like hoi third boss/second boss av rot damage during add phase, or last boss during crystals. Any time theres a lot of damage over a long period of time this cd makes things so much easier on the healer. They can focus on healing the players.
Invisibility is also op. Does a 60% damage reduction while invisible and for a few seconds after. Works well with alter time. It also cheeses mechanics. The chain boss in nelth targets a random player before the three spears go out for a nasty dot. You can invis mid cast and no one gets the dot. Same goes for the frost breathe that picks a random player on the second last boss of av. The big mobs, also in av, charge a random player and do an aoe roar. Its nasty when bolstered. You can invis the charge so no one gets hit, and use other cds for the roar.
Mages are super tanky, its just our defensives are proactive. If youre dying a lot its because youre not proactively preventing the damage or reducing it before it goes out.
Takes practice using your entire kit and a knowledge of the fights.
Thanks, all these are great and I try to use them as often as I can.
Most of my deaths come down to standing in the wrong place when I know I need to move. So like that giant arcane bubble from AV dragon kin boss, just taking it right to the face because I’m not paying close enough attention to what’s going on while I try to keep my damage up and watch my fps vs everyone else.
Honestly, sometimes I’m just a sloppy player, lol, or rather my focus ends up on my rotation buttons or weak aura and I don’t look at what’s going on. Arcane just takes lots of focus in lots of areas all at once. So if anyone is like “you’re not playing it right”, they are probably right, but it’s a game I enjoy, so I keep at it.
Yeah, practice makes perfect. Once youre more comfortable with fights and mechnics youll know theyre coming and wont even need to see them.
He does that big orb attack after an ad spawns. When the add spawns I know i need to interrupt. Ill switch to the add, arcane blast + counterspell on auto pilot, so i can turn my camera to the boss to see if i need to shimmer. I do this before he even casts it because ive done this fight 40 times now lol.
My biggest tips from the previous post is to get good with altertime, dragonsbreath, and blast weve. These three spells have saved me the most
MM hunters do be sandbagging and saying they’re bad but much like boomies, they’re doing just fine most of the time till you do a massive pull since they do be target capped.
