I WAS excited for WotLK.
I got chills watching the cinematic.
My hopes and excitement rose high but then were quickly blasted into oblivion.
Now, I am convinced that this game will be dead two months after launch.
To elaborate:
Classic: no changes.
Burning crusade: no changes.
WotLK: Let’s remove two of the biggest features in the game that gave people the ability to play more!
It’s like Blizzard just had the game development equivalent of an ABORTION for WotLK.
I had all my stuff ready to go, was going to make 2 more toons (or more).
But after that announcement, and after some serious consideration I went ahead with canceling my account.
Duel-Spec: Heavily Restricted, if even added at all.
Dungeon Finder: WILL NOT BE ADDED EVER.
I spent over 90 minutes two days ago trying to find a TANK for Heroic Arcatraz and that dungeon was the DAILY HEROIC AND THE DAILY NORMAL!
Idk about y’all but I am not in high school no more, I don’t have the time I did back then.
For that matter, I actually altered my entire degree program for my Master’s Degree so that it would not conflict with the release of WotLK; I wanted to maximize what time I had to play. (Graduate in 10 days btw).
Classic and BC have mostly been raid-logging for me (and the majority of the rest of the population by the looks of it) because getting groups together has proven extremely difficult.
I am not gonna do it in WotLK!
Dungeon Finder solved this problem because it allowed people to join a central queue.
People are tired of paying to just sit in cities and spend hours trying to fill groups to run 5-mans.
I was able to successfully run and gear up 5 toons back in the day (Prot Pally, Prot Warrior, Frost DK, Ele Shaman, & Disc Priest), now, in TBC, I am finding it near impossible to even actively gear up one because everyone just buys gold to pay 2 mages to boost them and then they buy more gold to join GDKP raids.
Finding a tank that does not demand gold up front to tank or all the green & blue loot is impossible.
I was depending on the Dungeon Finder to gear my toons, grind rep, and get ready for raids. I could queue up for a dungeon while doing dailies and questing and farming (herbs / mining). All that time playing the game will now have to be spent in Dalaran spamming trade and ‘/4’ for a group.
I am NOT going to pay to sit in a f&#%ing city staring at pink bricks because there is no other way to advance my toon.
Dungeon Finder was one of the most revolutionary mechanics of WotLK.
It did not affect the community because RAIDS were where it was at. You had your guild and server community in raids and in world questing.
I agree, LFR (Looking for Raid) hurt the community by basically making guilds obsolete.
LFD (Dungeon Finder) did NOT.
All LFD did was speed up pugging, make grouping for a dungeon a passive instead of active process, and allow people with limited time a more efficient way to enjoy the game which is arguably more important now given that the Classic population is older and most likely has many more real life things demanding their time and attention.
And either way, even if you disagree with me, this is a retrospective game, the effects on the community have already been had over the years and there is no going back.
The entire way of gearing toons revolved around Dungeon Finder.
Without it, there was no way to acquire higher gear for any toons other than raids (Frost Badges for example).
I mean, it wasn’t that long ago (WoD xpac) that Blizzard said they had no intention of doing flying mounts anymore or more complex talent trees again.
It took the success of Classic to get them to put talents back into retail.
And it took multiple threads on the forums at the time for them to put the Pathfinder achievements and Flying overall back in the game.
And now the new retail Xpac: Dragonflight will have both flying from the start and complex talent trees.
This move by blizzard to make major changes to the greatest Xpac in the history of the WoW Franchise is a display of how out of touch the developers are with the community and for me is the last straw.
I am done.
15 years of my life invested in this game on a 6 month recurring subscription and, at one point, I had the 12 month pass, and today I have canceled my account.
I have been waiting for WotLK since they announced Classic. I have been building my toon(s) in preparation for WotLK.
And with one announcement Blizzard has killed any desire for me to continue.
I will reverse my decision if Blizzard reverses their decision and REINSTATES THE DUNGEON FINDER TOOL. If I see in writing on an official post that DUNGEON FINDER WILL RETURN to WotLK Classic, then and only then will I renew my subscription.
