Good afternoon. I want to use the Mass Salvage Assist addon, which is available on CurseForge. Is it allowed, and will I not get banned for using it?
Your question is best suited for UI and Macro forum, since it is not a Bug that you are reporting.
Addons are limited to what Blizzard allows them to use. Mostly, they are within the working parameters set and are considered allowed. If an addon is doing something that Blizzard doesnt want, then they just disable its functionality.
Reardless, Blizzard will not endorse or sanction the use of a specific addon, and rarely apply account penalties for using them.
Thanks! i changed the tematik
Looks like all it does is combine stacks of a material when crafting fails so the first stack in the crafting ui will remain topped off. You still have to hit the button to craft when that stack eventually fails.
So, I am the addon creator for Mass Salvage Assist. Let me tell you why there is nothing wrong with it, though I understand your concern.
All this addon does is utilize the built-in in-game API that allows you to organize your bags. The catch is the addon chooses to just organize the particular reagent you are crafting. This is not really any different than any other addon that offers bag organization functionality. I just take a more limited approach of organizing your bags by organizing just the specific crafting reagent by combing stacks. 100% valid and acceptable to do with the in-game API.
Next, the crafting. This addon cannot start crafting for you. That is a restricted and protected action by Blizzard. You still have to trigger crafting. All this does is it refreshes the crafting after it organizes your bags. Think of a major crafting addon like TSM. You can create a big que of items to craft, but to get the ball rolling you have to trigger it to start. Once you trigger it, it will continuously go down the line and craft everything for you.
That is all MSA is doing. It is just, in a way, self-queing itself the same recipe to continue. This is perfectly acceptable and valid to do within the limited API framework.
At worst, all Blizz could do would be to restrict the API so addons cannot use the functions. However, if they did so it would effectively break several fairly major addons out there involved with organizing your bags or professions, and I really don’t think Blizz is going to do that.
In addition, it’s not really doing anything other than sort of fixing their own flaw in crafting that they have not fixed themselves, where you select a stack to salvage/craft but then it doesn’t work because even though you select a certain stack, it doesn’t salvage the one you selected, it salvages in bag/slot position as priority, which screws up your crafting due to the stack size error.
But, I get it. I just want to assure you that everything here is perfectly acceptable and well within the boundaries of acceptable addon behavior, and not in any way violating terms with bot automation or anything. This addon still requires your input and action to work.
