Yeah well I wanna’ use my weapons on a caster.

The whole game suffers from stat-stick syndrome.

I thought this was about hitting monks with your weapon. That I could have gotten on board with.

not gunna lie you got me there. sometimes smacking a monk is quite fun

I mean if we can give worgs and Evokers the ability to form shift outta combat there can definately be a button to use weapons or not.

And Martial arts aren’t just smacking things with fists.

It’s not as simple as a model swap (for once), these would require weapon & context specific animations and we know Blizzard are not willing to put in the effort.

then dont play monk

I wish I could do runemaster stuff and shoot blue magic like Chun Li style or Ryu or something crazy like that.

Is that not what chi blast does

Oh wait. Hmm nevermine.

Yea I think so. I think would be nice to see monks attack with weapon animations.

You can make a macro that says haduken!

But be prepared everyone is going to hate you

Done, but it’s the D4 sorc staff casting animation.

Monks are the only class that has a stat stick anymore*, while it was super progressive to eliminate stat sticks a decade ago, it is super unique to have just one class with a stat stick now.

*technically outlaw rogue weapons are primarily a stat stick for their invisible and unequipped pistol.

I think we’ll take anything at this point

Real question. Have you actually seen the D4 sorc casting animation?

Yes, and you’re absolutely hyperboling how bad it is.

Except that’s a new thing.

We used to have Blackout Strike, for example. Which used our weapon animation.

But then Blizzard changed it to Blackout Kick in Shadowlands. No more weapon animation.

Why?

Yea. Except there are fist weapons in the game and they constantly disappear from your character mid-animation.

I think my favorite monk attack animations were from the legion brewmaster.

Beating people with one hand amused me

IMO there should be an option to actually use your weapons.

IRL shaolin monks went to battle with clubs and other weapons. It turns out that in real combat having a weapon is WAY better than qi and other forms of magic that don’t actually exist.

And LOTS of monks died in these battles as well. It also turns out that trained career soldiers with things like armor and weapons are WAY better at fighting than a gardener that does ‘martial arts’ for aerobic exercise… even if they take their aerobic exercise very seriously.

Now in a fantasy setting where you can do all sorts of crazy BS this doesn’t really apply, and I love things like D&D monks who (usually) have similar constraints… but customization is customization… and from a game standpoint nothing is really lost by letting monks do monk things with a sword.
