Title says it all. I’d like to become very comfortable with warlock and controlling my pets. Spec wise, I’m interested in affliction, demonology and destruction in that order.
Most specifically, I want tips that separate the good warlocks and warlock mains from the majority of warlocks.
What macros do you use, if any?
Do you have any pet macros?
What specs are best in PvP, and why?
What pets are best in PvP?
What general talents should I avoid?
Also, the question I’m most interested in:
Are warlocks going to get nerfed?
This won’t deter my decision, but, seeing the latest damage charts… warlock players, do you think warlocks will be getting a big nerf soon?
The fact that you asked if warlocks will be nerfed is a reason you shouldn’t play. Warlocks are very inconsistent and even though when we shine we shine well, we have a huge downtime when we arent.
You have to be patient and ever changing if you want to roll a warlock.
I recommend going another spec so you can actually enjoy the game, especially in PvP. If you’re not good at micromanagement, move on to another class.
People who play warlock at this point are masochists.
Warlocks are notoriously mismanaged in terms of balancing, we are constantly benefitting heavily from externals that should not exist, and every patch we are being affected by multiple bugs that last for extended periods of time, aswell as the way locks are we tend to abuse niche gameplay mechanics to create absurd results.
Warlock is basically a rogues original roll the bones if it was a class.
I use macros to tie soulburn to all the spells it works with (except drain life, because I don’t play affliction
I don’t use pet macros, their actions can be key bound and learning to manage your pet independently will make you better at warlock
Demo > Destro > Affliction in PVP for arena. BGs tend to favour destro, but they all become a bit more viable in BGs vs Arena.
Best pets in PVP are doomguard for demo (a must) and most people run felhound for destro/affliction because of the kick/silence and generally people use grimoire of sacrifice to get the kick and not need a pet. I run succubus with destro because seduce helps me with melee.
Look up the guides for each spec and just copy them at first. Once you know what you like and how you play, you’ll be able to see what talents to avoid and which ones to pick.
As for nerfs, we will have to see how all the changes in 10.1 pan out.
My main advice if you want to play lock is be ready to play all 3 specs. Our specs get nerfed all the time and it’s rare that the best spec stay the same between seasons.
I finally committed to maining a lock this expansion and have had a lot of fun. Just remember to keep your pet healed up, use your health stones, and learn all 3 specs.
