You’ve been playing WoW off and on for almost 20 years. You’d be just as bored if it still played just like Vanilla.
That you can’t find any other MMORPG you enjoy shows you are just tired of the genre.

The core game play is still good?
You used to log into wow and you had two huge continents to quest in, zones with dangers lurking around that could kill you. You had to make friends and find ways to keep lasting friendships and you made a lot of friends during game play. Good players were loved by all and you had incentives to help others as well. You never knew what you were going to find because your map did t hold your hand the entire way. Quests were at least some what meaningful and felt like you made a difference once you left an area.
Now everything is Go as fast as possible, you never talk to another soul, 5 man content is pointless, everything you do is pointless, there is zero reason to explore, zero reason to go to that hidden area, zero reason for anything anymoe. Nothing you do in this game matters.

May need a more involved career or other hobbies.
I only play wow while having fun, so am super slow to level and get gear.

Why do people feel like they need to tell us their life’s story about wow? If you don’t find it fun, then just put the game down and don’t come back to it. That simple.

Maybe its time to take a break and just think about what you really want out of a game then. If wow doesn’t tick your boxes, there are countless other games.

It’s ok to be bored with the game. I have had to take breaks many times over the years. If you don’t like the progression of the game after you’ve returned then its time to find something new. Good luck!
After reading through all of this thread, the game isn’t the issue. It’s you. Not in a bad way, your just over games because they are no longer targeted toward you. Welcome to the world of gaming. It’s been this way forever. Originally aimed towards nerds, now aimed towards everyone and anyone.
Complaining and lashing out won’t fix anything. It won’t bring back the old days.
Do yourself a favor, find something better to do with your life than doing things that make you feel miserable. The gaming industry isn’t changing anytime soon.

You probably never see it again, with costs of things, Developers need as many players as possible, so they make the game playable by everyone not a select few.

im only gunna give suggestions cause you said you do want to play.
have you tried classic era? there’s a fresh community active atm. you should at least give it a try despite any preconceptions.
also… im p sure we can suggest p servers at this point. wow ascension and turtle wow are breathes of fresh air into the franchise, you might really enjoy them.
This is pretty contradicting to your point. You enjoyed it in wrath but now its too easy? WoW now is literally more complex and difficult than its ever been. I just came back after a 5 year break and im actually having to use outside sources to learn my characters. Wrath was as simple as looking over your spells/abilities for like 5 min so understand what you need to do.
