I don’t have time for both. Is SoD mainly meant to attempt to retain people who absolutely can’t stand retail? It seems you have to choose one or the other unless you have loads of time.
I think it’s for people like me who have played retail but are more or less ‘done’ with it.
Still have the WoW itch, just for something different, which is what SoD is.
I’m playing SoD only, but having a very good time, I’ve even made alts.
25 levels isn’t that bad.
But if you decide “this is fun, I want to play with the other changes” then maybe it would be too much.
But getting to 25 takes like 3 days.
Honestly, drop retail b:
That would be classic era. SoD has much more in common with retail than era does.
I think it’s meant to test the boundaries of where Retail “features” alienate players who enjoy RP elements in their game world.
I play SOD because it’s fresh and there is no ridiculously inflated ilvl gap on gear. Content is way more accessible and the game feels more like a RPG. Also the fact that they are open to try wild stuff like mage healers is a big draw.
I still play retail but only casually. Used to be a mythic raider up to BfA launch but I seriously despise the gearing process that always makes you feel behind. There are many more things to do on retail though.
It’s open to retail players absolutely, but please understand at the end of the day its foundation is classic WoW. It’s not retail- and they didn’t recreate classic wow to cater the retail playerbase and the modern conveniences which would detract from the classic game. So get used to some friction, inconvenience, etc, but you may find some unexpected benefits of the game philosophy and design of those times if you never played it before.
It’s meant to still feel like classic WoW. That’s what the devs have been saying a lot when asked about adding more modern qol features or anything from other versions of WoW. They’re very careful. So it seems to be intended for classic players who wanted a start at classic+, that’s the playerbase and audience that its for. If anything, it slowed down the pace through levelbands and that’s the biggest deterrent to modern players as a whole, the time commitment of leveling and feeling behind, plus it gives them time to balance and work on future changes.
SoD is just meant for players who want a slower leveling cadence with new class changes/balance and some new content through rune discoveries, raids, and pvp in the classic vanilla world and game. I think you can definitely play SoD with very little time. The sweatiest of players are already just spamming through alts. I would probably prioritize one game over the other though, so if you want to be serious on retail do that then when you want a break play some sod or vice versa.
Also Blizzard should do a fresh retail server that isn’t cross realm with no wow token/store items, give it the classic megaserver layer treatment, no lvl boosts and no account bound stuff attached to these servers. I actually think this would actually be kind of hype and a good way for new players to enter retail.
I play both, if you want to hardcore both but can’t due to time constraints then you just have to suck it up and accept you either need to balance your time between them or just play casually
Just because you have access to the servers doesn’t mean you have to play on them.
Sod isn’t that complex. It takes a lot of time to level, and you can do bfd at 25 and the new pvp zone, but that makes up the majority of content unless you want to collect runes or do alts. There are no chores / daily garbage in sod.
Play sod a few weeks then head back to retail.
i think it is okay to not have time to play everything all the time tbh
just play both once in a while, keeps both versions fun without burning out
only hardcore players would not have time to enjoy games, because they actually need to push progression. but in that case, i would already say you are spending too much time on a video game, assuming you are an adult
you don’t have to “finish” a mmo, just take your time with it. couple hours a week for years to come. remember to have fun right?
SoD is far superior to retail, the choice is clear
I mean you can get to 25 in a few days, and the raid takes 30-45 minutes.
But just decide which you enjoy more, and play that one.
Retail is always going to be more player friendly with plenty to do and more player interaction via cross faction and cross realm play. If you’re strapped for time, that will be your best investment.
Retail to me doesn’t feel like an MMO anymore, you solo quest and go through these storylines and then sit in town and wait for Queues or stare at M+ Party Finder and try getting into a party and spam keys.
Classic is just a better game; it feels like an actual MMO with a living world with people interacting with each other.
Season of Discovery took that and further added to it and made it feel fresh again.
It’s Classic with a twist, if you don’t like Classic gameplay, you’ll be happier in retail.
You, like myself and others will have to pay for or subscribe to retail in order to play classic. I don’t see an issue with this. So unless Blizzard changes this I’ll/we’ll have to continue this to be able to play any wow game. Play SoD now because it wont be around this time next year, Retail will always be there when ever you’re ready.
It depends on how sociable you are. Half the time without multiplayer mob tagging, people just troll each other in my experiences. Things like this lead to a more frustrating and infuriating game. Plus a group finder is better than using chat or an addon to get a group together. Modern convinces are conveniences that respect the players time more.
If I blend up a steak in a liquid I could probably down it quicker. Doesn’t mean it was a better experience.
No but if you don’t wait an hour for it to arrive you have a better dining experience.
