I can’t figure out how to play them! I understand the whole “do damage in the meantime to heal”, but it just feels like so many buttons I have to remember to use. Does anyone else have that problem? Does anyone have any tips to make it easier?
I tried setting up a holy priest build. Disc priest has so much less keybinds to remember and do. Holy priest has so much buttons O.o especially damaging abilities.
Also why they got rid of mind sear I do not know. Holy nova feels worse. Holy priest also has much more of a rotation to remember. Disc seems easier for some reason.

All those buttons for holy priest are situational its not exactly a rotation.
Not really. I have like 5-7 aoe spells for holy priest. There is like one for discipline. xD Holy priest has a bunch of nice spells. Disc has like 2-3 aoe spells and they have huge cds.
Holy priest has like so much dps spells and even dps cds. Disc in comparison has way fewer.
I don’t they needed to get rid of mind sear for disc either. The current recommended mythic plus build doesn’t even take holy nova. Disc ranged aoe is just multidotting.
Disc Priest is like 3 different gameplay loops stacked in a trenchcoat pretending to be one spec.

Unless you like PvP and have a good feral to play with, or have a raid group that needs a disc then I would not recommend playing Disc. Unless you are super passionate about it and love how the class plays I could absolutely not recommend.

Disc has to do DPS in order to heal. Holy can choose to DPS if they want because there isnt much healing going on.
Do you think Holy Priests are doing a lot of DPS in raids?
there are resources online you can approach for help. for example the warcraftpriests website/discord, icyveins, and wowhead will give you a solid introduction to the spec.
you can also find members of the community who stream on twitch or make youtube guides like automaticjak or yumytv. this will make it easier for you to see how they set up their keybinds, what buttons they use and when they press them.
to play disc priest, you will need to get used to having a rotation. there are 2 parts to this rotation:
- before the damage event, you use a rotation to place as many atonements on your group as possible
- as the damage event goes out, you stop placing atonements and start your dps rotation
(you can check icyveins for the suggested rotations. there are 2 main rotations: the evangelism ramp, and the rapture ramp. you will use both for raid boss fights)
you will also need to pay very close attention to timers (a boss mod like dbm or bigwigs will help), since you have to begin placing atonements about ~15s before the actual damage hits. viserio has made a spreadsheet of boss timers that can help you in planning your cooldowns (his spreadsheet and discord are also linked in icyveins vault of the incarnates guide for disc priests)
at the core of it, you simply need to practice and develop the muscle memory for the rotations. it’s also good to understand why certain spells are cast at specific times.
disc playstyle is quite different from the other healers in the game, but its definitely doable. dont be afraid to pop into the discords to ask for help and log analysis. i believe you’ll be able to play disc too!
Prayer of healing. Basic AOE heal. 5 targets. Use after prayer of mending if you have at least a 2 set for it to be cast faster.
Circle of healing. Instant and heals 5-6 targets depending on talent.
Holy word sanctify. Large AOE that is placed via target. Good for a large heal for anyone in it. Talent to make it sanctuary and cause a persistent heal on the ground.
Halo. Very large AOE that heals anyone it hits (and damages enemies). I only use it in raids. I don’t want to pull half a dungeon.
Holy word salvation. Massive cooldown. Healing, prayer of mending and renew on anyone in range. Need to be using other Holy words to get out to reset it’s cd faster. I try to use it early on when a CD is needed as I’m not likely to get it back again otherwise.
Diving hymn. Been around forever. Channel heal for 5 ticks of healing to anyone in range.

Honestly I miss mind sear. My disc has way less buttons then holy lol.
I can at least make my dots act like hots with more enemies giving more hots. But like holy priest also multi dot for aoe for damage and can just direct aoe heal.
My problem with disc is that they added a lot of buttons which all do the same thing. I havent played much in DF, but in SL mind blast was just a shadow smite that hit slightly harder and had a small absorb. It would be nice if they made MB a sizeable nuke for some burst atonement healing on a 20-30 second CD.
Penance doesn’t really feel as impactful as such an iconic spell should be. They can leave the damage and CD as is, but increase the healing so it’s a strong single target burst heal.
Disc struggles in M+ because the spec is designed purely for raiding and blizz stubbornly refuses to give them useful M+ talents.
The only tip I can tell you is you have to know when the big AOE damage is going to hit.
Is totally a proactive healer instead of a reactive healer.
