With dragonriding enabled everywhere now, I really want to request through all the zones.
But 1 shotting every mob at level 70 is boring. Is there a way to make it scale up to me? or me down to it?
Perhaps leveling to 60 and turning exp off is best? or would simply using extremely low level gear work?
Currently, the best way to do this is to level lock a character at 59 and use Chromie Time. (You lose access to Chromie Time when you hit 60, and you currently can’t lock XP on characters higher than 59.)
Once you get to BfA content, you’ll want to unlock XP, as some stuff will require level 60. BfA* and Shadowlands content shouldn’t be trivial even if you level a bit past 60, but you will lose access to the Dungeon Finder. For BfA, you can get around that by doing heroic difficulty dungeons, as they only scale to 50. For Shadowlands, if you need dungeons, you’ll have to find a friend to help.
*Some end game BfA content only scales to 50. It will be easier at 60, but I don’t think one-shot territory.
Wait really, you cant lock exp at level 60?
I think Dragonriding requires level 60 soooooo… this is bad news
You also can’t access Chromie Time at 60.
You could wait for the War Within, which will likely raise the Chromie Time and XP level caps. (And, given that Dragonflight will be the new expansion new players are funneled to for leveling, the requirements for dragonriding might be lower.)
Party snyc can scale down a high level character, but I’m not sure how practical that is. (It would require you to always be questing with a lower level character.) It’s not a feature I’ve spent enough time with to know the details.
I understand the want to do this non-trivial… I really do. I’m doing this at level 70 now and blowing through it all as we speak.
This is a bad idea for a couple of reasons:
- Group quests. You’ll flat out not be able to solo some of them and GL finding someone to help you. Zones like Shadowmoon Valley and Icecrown were considered end game zones back in the day and as such have insane group quests, these would prove extremely difficult if not impossible to solo.
- Dungeons. Outland Loremaster requires dungeons to be run to get the achieve. Shadowmoon Valley requires 4 dungeons. You won’t be able to solo them and again, It would prove rather difficult to get someone to help you.
- Dragonriding. Dragonriding unlocks at level 60 as mentioned above, so that fast speed is out of the question.
Edit: Just realized this is a near 2-week old post but what I said is at least still relevant. Anyone thinking about doing Loremaster the “non-trivial way” IE: Locking EXP at 59; I highly suggest not doing that… It won’t be a good time.
This isn’t a huge problem as you always have the option to temporarily turn Chromie Time off if you need to. (Or if you get bored with doing your full rotation on every kobald you need to steal a candle from.) You can always choose to unlock your level later, but once you’ve hit 60, you can’t go back. Even if you never use Chromie Time, locking your level can reduce interference from some later game phasing. It lets you keep access to Chromie Time, which gives you access to dungeon queues if you enjoy doing dungeons with groups. (And can also be useful for the “weaken the mob” quests that the foam sword doesn’t work on.)
So, while personally I’m all about one shotting mobs when I’ve got 3000+ quests on the agenda — I still level lock when going through old content clears.
