I really struggled to make gold during phase 1, and when I tried incursions they just didn’t make sense to me.
What can I do to get back into the game with such an outdated character?
Don’t waste your time, wait til they figure out what the next fresh classic will be

There are daily quests that earn about 50 gold a day. They are in the Searing Gorge. You can easily level up and get right back into the frey. Dont listen to the haters. Jump back in and have some fun.

It’s probably the fact that sod is retail lite, not classic+.
Make an ally on Wild Growth, all the other servers are dead.
Its just an andy who wants another fresh era server one of the reasons its hard to balance sod 
I also returned for this phase after only playing phase 1. As far as making gold, I’ve had good luck with a combination of skinning/incursions/and questing at max level. Still have a bit to go to catch up, but it hasn’t been as bad as it is being made out to be.
I started this toon fresh this phase on wild growth. I’m sure being on a more populated server has helped.

ignore the morons above me. Just keep leveling up grab your runes as you go. save gold all the way up because it gets expensive at 60. Tons of ways to make gold now though. FR gear, .5 gear, lvl 60 mount are all big expenditures but aren’t required unless you are going for heat 3, consumes are actually dirt cheap.
i did it and it was terrible. good thing is everything is gated so you have a chance to get r10 and t1 before next phase if everyone doesnt quit by next month.
