I want to be the best PvE mage in Crucible. What spec to learn?

Hi folks,

Frost seems to do pretty well with the cleaving that’s going on, but I was curious how the other specs are faring. Arcane was super high in the meters, but wasn’t sure if that is realistic with all the movement.

I want to flex on the meters (well, as much as I can as a mage) so was curious what the elitists are playing.

When you’re trying to get real good, do you just spam M+ content for your BIS gear? Curious how I get better, since raid gear is kind of low on ilvl.

First boss… arcane is awful for pure damage because it can’t cleave and practically the entire fight is 2 targets. You could argue it is the best at bursting the relic shields and killing the add before it casts. Frost is best for overall dps. Fire somewhere between them.

Second boss… all 3 mage specs pretty close. Primarily single target, but with brief periods of aoe and add cleave. Once again, dot specs have the opportunity to put dots on the adds and make other casters look terrible (even though it’s mostly padding and they will die to the storm caller relic). Filtering out add damage shows arcane with a healthy lead over the other mage specs.

Raid gear is pretty much bis for most slots if you can access at least a few mythic bosses, aside from a few trinkets (balefire for arcane, ignition fuse for frost, etc) and some niche azerite pieces that you have to buy with residuum or craft with engineering. M+ spam is always good if you can’t access high level raids of course.

Anything I should be prioritizing or looking for? Tunnel of Frost? Flash freeze?

And aim for crit until 33%?

As far as I’ve seen, crit is a little hard to aim for, if you get up to 22%, you’ll do okay for now. Trinket buffs are the only way to temp hit 33%. And the triple flash freeze is what’s common for those big D GS hits.

just stack 3 pieces with flash freeze run splitting ice and sim all your gear on raidbots to hammer out the rest. can also go to wow logs and compare to the top parsers

Except when you are tanking first boss :frowning: Could only do 22k dps :frowning: I should be able to cleave more ! Probably problem with my gameplay
