There have been a million opportunities to have added it by now. DK’s obviously still have the remains of Frostmourne, but at the end of the day, it comes down to just wanting to fulfill that idea of becoming the ultimate Death Knight.
Arthas is dead, Arthas’s soul is dead, and Frostmourne’s actual power is also long since faded away. At this point, it would simply serve as a “replica”, something for Death Knights to be able to finally fulfill that class fantasy.
At this point, it really just feels like “unfinished business”.
If my arms warrior had to get some random 2h trollfearing sword instead of the Axe of Cenarius. the broken remains that a frost dk gets for its artifact weapon are fair.
I’m down for DKs to receive a replica FM for transmog purposes. Could be a fun class quest line in the Shadowlands.
That being said. I hope wars, rogues, monks, and DKs are able to use the warglaives.
In return, DH players who have the achievement could get either HD versions of the warglaives OR different colored glaives to match the various tattoo colors
" Crafted by the Burning Legion to corrupt the world of Azeroth, the soul-stealing runeblade Frostmourne was shattered by Ashbringer atop Icecrown Citadel. Countless souls were freed from the broken blade, but others were not so fortunate. Today the shards of Frostmourne can be recrafted and infused with even more power. However, the spirits still trapped within must first be subdued and bent to the wielder’s will."
It lives on, just not in the same way.
We do know how it was made, so maybe go to the Shadowlands and get the Nathrezim and the Primus to work together and build a new one.
Idk, lorewise I think the DK frostblades still exist, just de-powered.
Same deal with Ashbringer; these weapons are pretty much retired from lore.
o i know like he was becoming like arthas in legion and would been cool if the dk just fought him once to keep him in place till he cools down
but that turned south lol
Not handing it out at Legion was a mistake. Especially in sight of the fact that Shadow Lands further trivialized its legacy. Now it’s just a mournblade. One of many.
The Jailer can and did produce its equal on a whim. No big deal.
For the record, I would also be totally down for any sort of “revival” for Arthas.
(In fact, I think a cool twist would be Murozond going back and “rescuring” Arthas before we will him in ICC…)
Regardless, I think Frostmourne feels LONG overdue. Shadowlands would’ve been a perfect opportunity for it (perhaps even allowing DK’s that crafted Shadowmourne to skip some portion of the quest), even if it’s just a “replica”.
I think it is a massive, massive bummer the weapon was shattered and “reforged” into a paid of 1handers, which a great many of us DK’s never wanted to begin with. Now that we’re on relatively good terms with the guy who made it, I see absolutely no reason we couldn’t reforge it yet again.
Hell, maybe even make it an additional little “Challenge Mode” thing, where you have to face a series of insanely difficult “souls” still locked away in its fragments. Hell, it could even be a way to sew the seeds of a possible Arthas return, like a small portion of Arthas’ soul still remaining in one such fragment…
