I want an RP-PvP server… or no RP-PVP server.
If you decide to not have a RP-PvP server on launch, I don’t want to invest heavily into a character on a PvP server… and then have a huge dilemma on whether I should roll on the “new” RP-PvP server, a couple weeks to months later…
We may even have a community set RP-Pvp server on launch anyway… and then what happens if an official one is released? The community will be fractured ;(…

I understand blizz stance for potentially not having one at launch since RP isn’t the most popular but I do wish you folks all the best and if the turnout for classic is as huge as people here expect you should expect blizz to launch said server the same day or the second day. I wouldn’t imagine a hastley added rp-pvp server would fracture the community.
Even if RP-PvP is the least popular option, I feel like they should still have enough people to fill out a server or two… I don’t think I’d ever be the type to roll on an RP server, but I don’t really understand why they’d go out of their way to limit that for players that are interested in RP realms.
I hope you guys get at least one server that works for you.

I think even if they do open up a RP-PvP server later on top of people being torn on if they should reroll away from friends and characters they’ve become attached to, the private server FRESH mentality players will cause problems in the formation of that community as it otherwise would have been if they had just launched with the option.
Having a RP-PvP server added post-launch causes harm to the community of that server. I agree, it needs to happen at launch or not at all.

Pretty much it has to happen at launch or it will cripple the server type before it launch’s, who know’s how late into the game it’ll launch and how it will effect the phase content as is?
It’s such a shame that blizzard doesn’t see the appeal or the authenticity of not having one.
I really don’t want to have to re-roll off a server i’m already playing on because I like rp-pvp.
I’d rather not bother at that point.
Question if the rp pvp community is already deciding to make their own rp pvp server out of a pvp server how would launching a rp pvp server on the second day ruin the community? There is a point where that would 100% ruin it but if it’s quick enough, it honestly wouldn’t have much if any negative.
Because, not all RP-PVP players want to roll on a RP server and not all RP-pvpers want to roll on a PVP server. so it’s already divided, people aren’t going to remake there toons a few months in just to re-roll on a new server type.
The thing is it would have to be so fast that you might as well just include it at launch, and it’s not like Blizzard is going to have information on day 2 about the demand of a RP-PvP server that they don’t have right now.
The longer you give existing servers to establish themselves and their communities, the more harm you do if you launch a RP-PvP server later.

I see and yes if it gets added months or even a week or two in it will create a community nightmare IMO 1-2 day wait would not even if the population started out divided if they had one early enough it would work.
The thing is, what are they going to do within those 1-2 day’s to get the new information, i mean yea sure 1-2’s is sometihng people can recover from but that seems nearly impossible blizzard would change there stance that quickly.
I would imagine that they are being on the safer side of not tossing one in, incase classic is a flop. That being said if they don’t add one hastley they shouldn’t add one because of the negatives. Also on the first day they will know intrest levels in classic wow not specific server types but from that you can get a reasonably accurate idea of the amount of rp pvp people. However IMO since blizz seems to be hesitant about the rp-pvp realm stuff maybe they can solve their problems before launch with split classic boards to get a proper idea or something else that will give them a better metric.
The initial rush isn’t something to trust too much since we’re all, including Blizzard, expecting a lot of tourists. That is, people who come to check it out and ultimately leave after a short time.
That’s one of the reasons they’ve said they’re entertaining sharding in the first place, which would allow them to use greater population caps to give a buffer against servers dying because too many people quit before hitting level 20.
If they had a RP-PvP server at launch, worst case scenario just fold it into a regular PvP server and be up front that if the server can’t sustain a good population after the rush and drop of players then that is what is going to happen.

Yeah the whole tourist thing does skew that, I do believe the happy medium between blizz hesitation and the rp-pvp is what you suggested.
I said it in another thread on the topic, but there is zero real reason not to launch with at least one RP-PvP server. Emerald Dream was an RP-PvP server and was one of the most popular servers, and there was enough demand during Vanilla the first time around that Blizzard felt compelled to launch RP-PvP servers. There is no good reason not to believe there wouldn’t be enough demand for at least one server of the type this go around.
I have no doubt the real reason behind the “No RP-PvP servers” is Ion and Company’s “Raid or die, everything is eSports” mentality. To them, RPers are weirdos who aren’t into competitive activities like raiding, and certainly not PvP, so from that viewpoint, an RP-PvP server is pointless.
They really just cannot understand why somebody who might want to world-PvP would roll on a RP server. And they are wrong.

That’s a lot of assumptions about the people recreating vanilla. Has the sky fallen yet? Making these kind of rash baseless assumption of people and their intentions is not conducive to a discussion. Also instead of assuming they have no good reason to put it in and spazzing out, why not try and figure out how to convince them that there is a demand for the server.
It seems to me like the community is coming together in agreement that an RP-PVP server at launch would be healthy for Classic. I’ve posted on the forums, signed a petition and liked every video I could in support. Now I can only hope that Blizzard responds with good news.

Same, the only really big thing we can do is reach out to other media outlets or news! Which is both laughable untill we get a much larger following. I’ve been pointing some of my friends who don’t live under a rock to talk to streamers about it, but you know how those type of people are.
I sometimes really can’t get my head around there not being an rp-pvp server. To have come so far…overcome so much…and be so close…only to stall here.
Seriously??
It’s like deliberately not crossing the finish line.
