I used to hate hunters, now I am one!

Hey guys. I’m a long time on-and-off casual player who’s been playing since vanilla. Back in the day I thought hunters were the absolute lowest of the low. I thought hunttards were all babies who had no idea how to play the game or how to do anything right. I hated it when hunttards would roll on stuff they didn’t need, and hated it even more when they kept growl on. I saw hunttards as the ultimate casual class for people who couldn’t engage in the game right.

Well guess what? Fifteen years later and I’m an adult with a busy life. I have a job and tons of obligations. I’m lucky to have time to play WoW at all, and I’ve got to say, the class design for hunters is AMAZING! Easy to learn, difficult to master. Easy to solo quests and other things and easy to pop in an out of the game world on your own schedule and not your guilds. Blizzard was brilliant to create this brilliant class which is the perfect way to play a game as involved as vanilla casually. I’m in awe that Blizz had the design know-how to create such a perfect casual class. If you are a huge vanilla fan and feel squeezed for time then try out a hunter because this class is just perfect.

My main was co drood and hunter back i. Vanilla (solo and group play respectively). Half of the time my “group” was just me and the wife, and we often would split up in an area on kill quests. You can steam roll things your lvl as long as you dont get too cocky and beat quest mobs that are red if you are careful. Very fun. Gl and enjoy!

Thanks for the advice. I love the idea of soloing elites at higher levels. It’ll be really fun to explore and take on little challenges.

Pets are a little broken right now, but nothing you cannot manage.
I am mostly doing red quests just because I can, but they need a little more management.

What do you mean by broken?

Pets sometimes don’t execute the commands correctly.
If you are used to manage pet attacks, skills, etc, manually you will see that sometimes it does not do what you want.
This has been reported on this forum many times. I saw a guy who will reroll because of these issues. There is an issue with feign death too.

Regardless, hunters are the most fun class to play.

Put succinctly (this probably won’t make much sense to laymen) pets are running in their own thread, unlike vanilla where all combat was local. Stuff like position, movement vectors, pending actions etc have to be copied over. Shortcuts are taken, latency is introduced, accuracy is sacrificed ad nauseum. It’s a difficult if not insurmountable problem.

Sounds like death by object oriented.
I liked the times when development was simple and to the point.
I am glad I am retired now and don’t have to deal with all the crap out there. Nothing like a good assembly programming.

Thanks for the info. I didn’t really notice glitches with my pets… but I’ve also been leveling, not doing anything more complex yet, so no extensive micromanagement.

I enjoy the class very much and hope these issues get fixed soon.

Loved hunter from classic up through Legion. Always had a lot of fun playing it, and collecting pets can be fun (if sometimes frustrating) too.

pets have a hard time hitting moving objects and will just sit there after a kill instead of coming back to you

I do enjoy teaching my pet skills and feeding, hunter has always been a good solo leveler.
