I upgraded to Windows 11

sadly stuff like this is usually forgotten about and or ignored by most people until it is far too late and their computer is useless because of such policies.

I guess I wasn’t right but, I thought windows 10 was gonna be the ā€œdefinitiveā€ windows edition forever. There’s nothing wrong with it and idk why we need to change. Someone told me it’s not ā€œcompatibleā€ with my chip and that I’d have to change my pc for it eventually just for it, not happy at all.

Now that Microsoft owns Blizzard, they’ll introduce code to bog down WoW until you upgrade to 11.

Huh? I use the pin thing. Is that changing?

I upgraded my Ryzen 5 5500U laptop to Windows 11 and it green screen of death’d on boot on a loop, so I went back to Windows 10. I upgraded my Ryzen 7 1700 desktop to Windows 11 and it griped that my CPU is no longer supported, so I went back to Windows 10.

Glad you had no issues. Account security is the most labyrinthian thing I’ve ever encountered. So much so that I pray that when the Activision Blizzard purchase goes through they NEVER integrate battle.net into XBOX Live/Gamepass/etc.

No differences due to Win 11 except for the following: my speakers would get disabled by Windows. My speakers plug in by usb into my monitor and this wasn’t an issue in Windows 10 but with Windows 11 whenever my monitor would shut down in powersave mode, it would disable the speakers too. I ended up changing my power options to keep my monitor always on to fix this.

I’m still running Windows 95

I won’t upgrade to Win 11 either until I absolutely have to or if I buy a new computer that already has it installed. According to the character select screen in game, my computer won’t run WoW after the next expansion so I’ll need to either buy new parts for the one I have now or buy a new premade one if I decide i don’t want to mess with doing the build myself.

I had a friend help me build this computer back in 2011 and so far I can still play what games I want to on it. I’ve added more RAM, changed to SSD and upgraded video cards as needed since it was built, but no major problems with it so far.

not for windows 10. there was a future build of windows 11 that was briefly leaked onto the internet and windows claims it’s a ā€˜internal build’ that may or may not go live. they didn’t confirm nor deny that it was going to be in the next build which is a ominous sign. requiring an account to log in/recover your pc is a very very bad idea from a security perspective (as its not a matter of if but when your email will be compromised nowadays). business wise i can see why they would want to do it as i assume they calculate the lost business from more tech savvy people will outweigh those who can’t or won’t switch os’s because of this AND they get to create a more curated atmosphere sort of like another certain fruit shaped company…

i think the rule of thumb is to skip every other OS because they are bound to mess something up and provide 0 features that require it.

Windows 10–> windows 12. never go with 11/ odd numbers. odd things happen. ;D

Apple has been doing it for decades. :woman_shrugging:t4:

Are we talking the company being hacked or your own personal email being hacked?

Me and my roommate have been toying around at using some version of Linux on our old laptops to see if we’ll like it more than Windows, since her new laptop came with Windows 11 and she hasnt been enjoying it, but its not to bad, just annoying.

Been on 11 since it was available. Some tweaks to run properly, but overall not much concern. People reluctant to change always amuse me. Like a bunch of old people yelling for people to get off their lawn.

both. if the hackers manage to decrypt the passwords.
also that’s another reason i don’t go with apple. among dozens of reasons. apple is a terrible company and should NOT be emulated. they are VERY anti consumer. yes there computers are easy to use but for anyone that has the least bit of technology savvy they are a horrible company since they are VERY MUCH anti right to repair. something that windows takes a lax approach towards most of the time but the latest trends seem to indicate they are starting to take a more apple stance on SOME matters which is worrying.

i get into a whole tirade and essay about apple but ill stop here.

Win 10 data collection is rather annoying( I don’t think it’s right that you cannot completely stop it all) and i would prefer not to give even more over in Win 11.

I can’t upgrade. My machine is a custom-build from 2009 (new guts put in 2017/2018) that apparently lacks something Windows 11 needs.

Well not all odd number ones were bad . Win 7 was good so was XP . Not all even ones were good either Win 8

My situation is similar, as I build my own rigs too and Windows Update always gives me that little notice now that my machine isn’t eligible for an upgrade to 11.

I’ve never actually cared enough to bother researching what the problem is that WU doesn’t find my machine worthy of its new OS. I have no intentions of upgrading for years to come.

As someone who spent quite a number of years working for them in tech support, I can 100% tell you that never once did we get calls about the inability to use the login requirements.

I didn’t drink the Kool Aid, so I’m not some huge Apple supporter, but the login was never something that stopped anyone from getting onto their computer or doing a recover or E&I.

AppleID issues on their own were prevalent, but not to use or restore the computer itself.

I have a feeling that Microsoft’s way was similar.

Erm… I had people send in stuff all the time for repairs? I also set them up with appointments to get repairs. And E&Is can be done over the phone. I’m not sure I follow.
