Well, I unsubbed. It was based on 2 things, one was the amount of time it took each week to keep up and the other was disappointment with SL. First, I returned from being 4 years afk towards the end of bfa. I played a hunter mm and a lock, aff and destro.
I found that the technology is incredible. Much improved from 4 years ago. It is a marvel! The story line is great, also and the cinematics outstanding.
I leveled my lock and played it for the first month or so. I was in a raiding guild and started finding that destro was pretty low on the dps meters, both the nature of destro and my admitted lack of skill. I had only started playing the lock and hunter in bfa at the end. I had previously mained a rogue.
The lock brought good utility to the raid: healthstones, gates and summoning. So, they put up with me, though my dps was near the bottom. But, I wasn’t satisfied with my performance. Destro, just didn’t do the dps for me to be middle of the pack with hunter, mage, shadow priest, etc. I went back to aff, but found that in the midst of raiding or M+, I just couldn’t keep up all the dots, etc that were needed for top aff. My skill level isn’t there.
So, I went ahead and leveled my mm hunter. Then, I went through the labor of gearing up and it was a grind. But, I got to a good ilvl and was doing much better with my dps. I was sure behind, though. And to get geared up, I bought some tokens and bought some M+ carries, I admit.
I found that there were some real drawbacks to the hunter, though. Mostly, relating to Torghast. I had a tough time with it at high lvls. I found that the anima powers were really lacking for mm.
In addition I found other frustrations. The travel time flying was way too long. No portal from Arden to Oribos was a drag. flying to other continents took too long imo.
Then, there was the amount of time it took to get ready for each raid. Had to do M+ to try to get better gear and from the great vault. Had to do Torghast for the ash. Had to do the Maw and more. I found that it was taking about 20 hours all told to do what I needed each week, including raid times, farming, M+ and other tasks. 30 hours would have been better. There were other things, like reading and watching boss strats, following the blue posts, reading the forums, etc.
I just don’t have that much time. There were things that just didn’t keep my interest, for example, torghast was a big time suck. It may have been my skill, but I had a number of runs on higher layers that I just couldn’t get through unless I got really good rng on anima.
Other things that bothered me were the lack of loot. The drop rate is so low as to be painful. To run a bunch of bosses and not get any drops was disappointing.
The great vault was great to open each week, but too many times it didn’t have anything useful for me, rather something I already had.
I fully admit that I am not the best player. I try, though and there were just too many difficulties that made the game go sour for me.
So, I unsubbed. I may be back at some time, but not for a while. Perhaps when I can commit to that 25-30 hours a week.
Good luck to all y’all!
