Yes the housing was instanced. As WoW housing will be. But in Wildstar, you had a land plot. You could work on obtaining different house types, sizes, outbuildings, minor perks enhancements. The world was filled with drops, crafting recipes and quests or events to do that would drop furniture, decorations, ect for your plot of land.
There was a lot of customization and personal choice with how you set up your plot of land. It was fun, engaging, but never felt intrusive or required.
They had Guild Housing. Which had a monthly upkeep fee. The fee was easy to pay if you had a good number of active members contributing through playing the game. I am sure they want to avoid everyone having one of their alts make a guild just to have a guild house for 1 alt. I am sure there will be restrictions on everything.
What I worry is that the housing will be just an interior room. Where we get a home hearthstone, and we zone inside the house. We choose the motif and decor and theme, but it is just the interior. I would like them to feel like an actual plot of land not an apartment.
I would love that too, while I have not played Wildstar, I was obsessed with housing in New World. I loved having tiny property to work with and being able to add stuff. I do hope blizz brings in the aspect of completing quests/achievements and having your house be the one displayed to all in the city.
I’m expecting it to be like SWTOR. Set buildings on a set piece of land. Most likely the first house we get will be free but small. Maybe a one room house.
I expect hooks for placement. But the game does allow for Noblegarden eggs to be freely placed, so that’s possible, too.
I expect us to be able to eventually buy other housing plots like we can buy Strongholds. For gold. Not cash.
I expect decos to come from all sources in the game: all professions, open world, raids, dungeons, Delves, PvP, Trading Post, etc.
Wildstar’s housing system is absolutely the gold standard. I don’t know how feasible any of that is, but I would honestly lose my mind if it was anything even remotely comparable to Wildstar’s housing system.
I thought about that too. My only concern is that, if you don’t have enough real customization, it risks seeming like “Garrisons 2.0”.
For my part, I mostly hope they have “themes” that allow you to change the weather, lighting, and environment surrounding your house. Whether you want a “cozy” space with warm lighting, or a gothic stronghold reminiscent of Icecrown Citadel, I think it’s important they allow players to truly make a space feel “there own”.
Eh, I would say Strongholds have customization, but I’m going to be honest; I wouldn’t consider it particularly impressive. The locations are cool and all, but I don’t feel like one player’s Stronghold is ultimately any different from another player’s in the same location.
I think a lot of what has made FFXIV’s Housing system so good is the ability to “clip” objects through floors and such, really letting you go crazy with ideas. So even despite the same floor layout, rarely do two houses look the same.
The building? No. But I’ve seen and done some super creative stuff with deco placement to make these places look very different.
My Yavin stronghold is like an ancient temple with some curious hidden old tech found covered in vines and plant life. While my friend’s is a military base and my other guildie has it set up as Sith temple.
I miss WildStar housing so much. If Blizz is serious about making this a real, long term part of the the game they really need to do it as well as WildStar did it. Housing, almost by itself, kept that game going for like half it’s lifetime. There is no content droughts in a game with solid, WS level housing because there’s always building to be done.
You could build ANYTHING in WS housing. It was amazing what all players came up with. It’s like Minecraft but high detail, not everything made out of Duplo blocks. Players used their land to make space ports, giant factories, the Millennium Falcon (inside and out), treetop villages, underwater habitats, skateparks (WS had awesome hoverboards. I miss those too), haunted houses-- You name it, people built it.
If WoW does housing that good people will stick around though thick and thin just to work on their houses. It’s like Minecraft, that game’s still going just because people love to be able to build whatever they want. Please, Blizz, don’t half donkey this. Not just for our sakes but for the game’s sake too.
i just wish it had physics based gravity acceleration/deceleration for the hoverboards.
i made a huge “skatepark” out of my housing plot but it got boring real quick since going down a slope didnt give you speed lol
Wildstar didn’t fail at housing. It failed at end game content. Same with Rift. Housing in Rift was good. Though complex. But the game failed to give players end game.
SWTOR is kept going by Strongholds for the most part. People are constantly playing different types of content to get those decos!
Wildstar was the Housing GOAT, it is the standard all other mmo’s should aspire to at least meet. Anything less than Wildstar will always feel lacking.
