I thought curse words weren’t allowed in names

Ended up in a dungeon with someone who had the literal F word in their name. I thought the game didn’t allow that?

I know you’ll get in trouble for it, but I thought the game itself wouldn’t let you select a name with that word in it.

I tried to name my priest Godflay once and it wouldn’t allow it because the word God was in the name. So how did this get through?

My guess is they were probably using one of those alt thingies on top of one of the letters to get around the censor. I really wish the game didn’t allow them. It didn’t originally, but then for some unknown reason all of a sudden, it did. Just report and move on.

If they used a weird letter like an alt code it can bypass it.

Report the name and explain in the note why you reported.

I checked, there weren’t any funny letters

If they ain’t letting us use special characters they best be letting us use spaces and apostrophes in our names cause there ain’t no way I’mma try to make a new character and have it’s name be ALOWDIKA

Strange. Maybe they brute forced it somehow?

That seems odd, I would assume that the F word is banned as a substring.

It doesn’t, but players keep finding creative ways around the filter. Report it and it will get changed.

The alt code symbols can be hard to spot sometimes. You may have missed it.

I wonder if something like ChatGPT but trained for names specifically would be better at determining if names are appropriate or not than a substring method. It seems to understand the message and stop me every time I ask for something even remotely inappropriate.

More than likely using alt letters to get around the detection system, with how some people behave its a wonder how blizzard hasn’t banned or limited the use of the alt characters at this point.

I looked them up on raider IO. It’s just regular letters. I’m confused how they got past the games filters when my priest couldn’t even have God in his name

Must be some workaround they found, a good analogy is that of squirrels and a bird feeder. In that you can put things such as a squirrel pan or use a special bird feeder that deters squirrels, which will work for a little while. Yet the squirrels will keep trying more and more methods to get to the bird seed until they find some method to get to it and will exploit it until you modify the bird feeder again to keep them from using their new method. Then its ad nauseum until you either give up, find a way to specially modify the bird feeder to keep them out permanently, or take the feeder away all together.

Same applies to players, they keep testing things until they find a work around and exploit it because their either 5 years old, think their being edgy, or are that racist in some cases.

For some reason, your analogy brings me back to those whacky lethal squirrel boobytraps people set up taking squirrels out like they were an NPC in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Just looking at raiderio, there is a suprising number of toons with the F-word in their name and no special characters

I’m guessing the filter isn’t looking for it

I mean, if you go to the armory and type f-word’er 2 toons pop right up. One is level 70 too with AOTC and KSM, so I’d be amazed if they managed to avoid being reported.

I mean on the one hand its a bit funny, but on the other I understand that such language is inappropriate, not to mention its against the ToS so yeah its something worth mentioning.

I’m not so much disturbed as curious why they can have an F bomb in their name and I can’t have God in mine

Yeah too bad.

I don’t get why some immature people would want to break the rules. My guess is they want to be “cool.” Sigh… glad I’m pass that nonsense.
