I’m CP1200ish for those who are familiar. I played WoW for about 6 weeks and to to 70, bought Dragonflight and maxed out dragon riding. I haven’t done a single raid, only questing and running a few dungeons via the dungeon finder. However I had a lot of friends in ESO pressuring me to come back. They were all talking trash about WoW how it’s archaic with its tab targeting, and poor graphics. I stuck around since ESO was going to release the new Necrom chapter or expansion. After I beat it and the hype wore off, my issues with ESO started coming back up so I said I’m going back to WoW.
-I actually prefer WoW’s graphics-they are vibrant and makes the world feel more alive. ESO’s graphics (while realistic), are really grainy, and sort of fuzzy-looking. Everything looks the same for the most part.
-WoW has flying, and feels more immersive whereas in ESO you just want to run to the nearest wayshrine to teleport.
-ESO is very soloesque and lonely whereas WoW gives me Runescape vibes. No auctionhouse either or ‘Grand Exchange’.
-ESO’s community is way too soft. I don’t know if it’s because the game is super easy for the most part, or because the horizontal progression attracts like-minded individuals. Horizontal progression is just so boring. Gear is extremely situation-dependent, nothing really feels BiS.
I saved the best for last. Here is the absolute, #1reason I enjoy WoW more: class identity. I love being locked into a particular class/playstyle that no one else can play unless they’re the same class as me. In ESO, classes are so homogenous that it feels as if it’s useless even trying to pick a class. Mages can wear plate armor, knights can wear cloth, many abilities that are meta are shared by all classes with only just a few class-specific abilities on both bars. All classes can heal, tank, and dps. All classes can wear all pieces of gear.
Has anyone else felt the same? Am I missing anything?
yeah but ESO is a way way way way better questing game than WoW. but i don’t play mmos for quests so i rarely play ESO. i wasn’t even being tongue n cheek i massively enjoy playing ESO alone. i prefer to play ESO without others. i find it relaxing to do the campaigns.
The quests in ESO are stupid easy. You can literally down the final boss of a zone story quest line in seconds. The story goes on building up all this hype, and for what? 20 seconds face tanking the final boss?
All MMO questing is super easy, it’s just better presentation in ESO, I find. I feel more a part of the action. If you prefer WoW questing I totally understand.
I thought realistic meant better, but it’s not. For example, I had a blast growing up with Runescape’s graphics. It actually felt like a game. I see these new MMOs going for the hyper-realistic look, and while it’s impressive and all…it’s just too bland. It’s like watching Nat Geo
The hyper realistic can work, but it also is way harder to get right.
Like BDO has “better” graphics yet it was massive amounts of clipping even in the character creator gear. It looks so bad because of the hyper realistic type of graphics.
This is precisely what I’m speaking towards. It’s just a fun Elder Scrolls game with an occasionally brilliant narrative. I think it’s one of the better alternate universes in fantasy. I play ESO for entirely different reasons than I play WoW.
Also ESO has housing and a more robust crafting economy. I prefer the team play and combat in WoW so I play way less Elder Scrolls Online is a great game it just scratches a different itch.
Weaving is the worst. It is seen as the “skill factor” in the game when it comes to dps and parsing. It’s so bad that the newest class revolves around less weaving and even has a new item that reduces weaving tremendously while tremendously boosting ability damage.
I’d been meaning to try the new class, but I got caught up in WoW, so I haven’t purchased the new ESO expansion yet. I’ll probably get it after I come back from my August Vacation.
WoW with Action-Targeting turned on does “pseudo-action-but-really-tab-target” better than ESO does. Probably because it is slower-paced and there is no “Light” and “heavy” attacks to worry about.
With that said, Guild Wars 2 is honestly superior to both, imo. It really deserves more players than it has.
Only reason I am not playing it full time is because it does not have built-in Controller support, and Controller Support is a hill I will always die on.
Hey great post man and no I agree. WOWs gameplay mechanics are solid and feel better than ESO and FF14. The game that comes close to WOW is SWTOR and GW2 is in between because I hate how they tailor their spells to the style of weapon you use plus you’re limited.
Another thing that WOW has going for it is it’s Macro/Mod system, there is no other like it from what I know.
On the down side it’s become to bubble gummish and care bear centric. PVP has taken a harsh back seat in WOW and it sucks.
Plus the story went from awesome death metal like feel to Dora the Explorer Saturday morning Cartoon play.
