How good would it be if we had WoW on console? I think it would be a great idea for blizzard to work on
Console? I’ll do one better. Mobile! You have a phone, don’t you?
If it means getting support for gamepad on PC, then I’d like that.
WoW wasn’t built for console, it’d be extremely hard to get it running on the less then 2ghz per core console processors.
As for pure hypotheticals though… it works well for FF.
It would work on the next gen ps5.
Xbox 1 x prob too, with some optimizations and concessions
Death Knight. Title gore.
Reminded me of this fan art from the Burning Crusade days: http://psp.tgbus.com/news/200809/20080920092448.shtml
This is a new and interesting topic that hasn’t been beaten to utter death before.
WoW would work fine on the PS4/xbone anyone saying otherwise is deluding themselves.
The only issue would be having different servers for kb&m and the controller crowd.
Bliz’s ingame voice would prob see more use as well.
Why, you do it properly and it’s a non issue.
PS4 and PC players are on the same servers in FFXIV and I can’t tell a difference in groups. I’m usually the bad player though.
People do ultimate with controllers there, and that’s no joke.
Work fine? Eh?
It would work… OK.
The CPUs in those consules are Bulldozer-based trash.
It would certainly be playable, for sure. And im not one of the people that things “controller lol”. Ive seen a buddy play FF14 on his PS4… hes just as fast and accurate as i am on a keyboard and has 25+ abilities to use.
The reason it wont happen is because Blizzard is not interested in maintaining two more versions of the client, and the way that patches have to work on Xbox Live and PSN could lead to weeks or months of delay on a patch (because if there was cross-play, they all have to be patched at once) if one service or the other didn’t certify it.
It’s not gonna happen.
Not everyone has the latest and greatest CPU/video card in their machines. If the ps4 can play FF14, BF1, Fortnite and many others on a “trash cpu” then WoW can easily run on it as well.
Look up aim assist and you will see why you may think some players are so great on console with a controller. Have them turn it off and then see if they are still so great.
You are comparing CPUs and GPUs as if they have anything to do with one another. They dont.
WoW is incredibly CPU bound. A 2.0 Ghz Jaguar CPU (which is what is in the Bone and PS4, give or take 100-200mhz) is awful. Its a low power variant of AMD’s Bulldozer architecture - you know, the garbage-fire that was FX. A 4Ghz full-fat desktop FX-series chip couldn’t produce framerates competing with a dual-core 3.0ghz Celeron. A 2-ish Ghz low power version of that CPU isn’t going to win any performance crowns.
Its almost like different games are different and most aren’t CPU bound (like all those shooters you just named). And FF14, btw, does a LOT to limit how impactful on the CPU it is. Draw distance on the console version is terrible, its one of the main reasons that their group and raid sizes are so small, and they shard like a mother-effer to keep the number of people on screen (and thereby, Draw-calls) down. There’s a reason they had to drop support for the PS3 version of FF14, and it wasn’t the lack of GPU muscle. It was the CPU.
What are you even replying to here? I agreed that the controller is not the issue. Learn to read much?
In the end, if you go back and actually read what i wrote… i said it would be playable. Itd be 30fps or lower at the PC equivlant of medium settings at best (particularly Draw Distance would be about a 3-4 on the PC)… but it’d be perfectly playable and look OK.
That isn’t why Blizzard will never do it. Here, ill re-iterate since you apparently missed it:
Patch certification on each platform can take up to four weeks. Four. Weeks. And it can be denied because the file size is too large or other weird problems (which is why one patch to the DC MMO required a complete re-install, because the developer just could NOT make a patch work with Xbox Live’s inane requirements).
That would mean that a single esoteric platform patch issue (like PSN or Xlive just having a snit) could delay a patch rollout for a MONTH.
That is why Blizzard isn’t going to do it. Straight up.
Thats also why Diablo III isn’t cross platform for ANY platform.
The irony in that is FFXV where it runs okayish on a PC and looks better on a console. Bad ports are bad.
I woukdnt say FFXIV looks better in a console at all
For one, you can’t get it to run at 144fps on a console.
He said FFXV, but really XV looks amazing and runs great on my computer so… /shrug
Guess I missed that… But XV is not comparable to wow at all and in this context comparing FFXIV on console vs PC is more relevant
Especially given that’s what kagthul was talking about
