Edit: I did not mean a literal world of Warcraft 2. I meant a wow where Azeroth isn’t there anymore, instead it’s another planet. Basically making all leveling and the way we play in line with what they have in wow today. Maybe taking SOD style runes and adding them into our gear as we level. Making events take place using the entire new world instead of just in new expansions. Making zones that do not go irrelevant the second a new expansion drops which is they do things today. It wouldn’t be the wow we know today but wow set in a new world because the old one is destroyed.
It just feels weird that so far, this entire expansion and even the pre-event has been so hyper focused on us remembering the past and everything that has led up to this point in WoW’s history. It’s like we’re sitting at the table with our grandparents talking about family history and seeing pictures of ourselves as kids as we grew up because they are getting old and are on the verge of dying and want us to remember the good times.
I feel like this threat is going to be the one that we cannot stop and at the end Azeroth will be destroyed. The old world will be phased out and put into chromie time, but we will be pushed into an entirely new planet/world with new leveling zones by the end of the World Saga. We will be saved by Silvermoon city where it will end up like Dalaran, the mages will blast the entire city into a new universe with a new planet we settle on, new hubs and everything else, and this could also completely end the faction war. It seems like the only way they could do this is by restructuring the entire game anyway and they have been leaning on peace between the factions for a while now.
(People are already complaining that they can’t group with the opposite faction even though they can have cross guilds)
The old world is now 20 years old. Everyone has played and done these quests a million times. They don’t even encourage new players to level up in the old world.
One thing thing that’s bugging me is what other expansion has it where we have zero need to go back to our main city hub? They have always left a reason to go back, whether its the auction house, or transmog trader, or to even train professions or whatever. They have never made it so we don’t have to go back. The new city has everything in it.
That would be fun. I don’t mind a nice reset to get things baseline. I love Azeroth and all its zones but exploring a whole new planet, if done with the care love and affection as they did in classic, would be a grand adventure.
They need to get a new base line of players and find a way to draw in the 16 year olds like they did to us so they have a whole new set of dedicated players for the next 20 years, but everyone has seen the world we have today and just adding in new expansions isn’t enough. We need to be able to explore new things.
I doubt they will kill off their WoW cash cow intentionally. It also doesn’t appear that 16 year olds today are interested in MMOs. Blizzard probably needs to make more mobile games if they want more of a teen audience.
I was actually like 22 when I first started playing but I just tossed an age out there.
The game isn’t the same game we played back then anyway, it’s faster paced and leveling is quicker. So it wouldn’t be the exact same, but they could create and entirely new world with the way things are today. Instead of small areas like we have in new expansions they could create a new world with tons of things to do, plus you could always go back to the old world with Chromie. Zones in our newest expansions have events and such. Old world has nothing.
What reason do people have to play in the old zones? None. They haven’t changed anything in so long and they never add anything to it. I wouldn’t mine if they expanded on world quests and added them into the old zones but they never do. With every new expansion they made the old world less appealing to anyone, especially new players. The zones are dead, no one to meet and play with. It would be neat if they redid the entire leveling experience but they would need to give us new zones to do it in.
the one thing that debunks any and all “wow 2”
this is an mmo and Blizzard’s magnum-opes, they won’t let this game die for another few decades at the very least.
you mean like how cata completely changed many different questing zones?
you know, the one and only expansion to this day to ever do that? Not even the damn giant sword compares.
Like bruh, there is no “wow 2” it’s just going to be “xpack #50”.
