I think people are missing the picture

Season of Discovery is blizzard experimenting with its classic client to see where they deviated in their retail version that made it become a less desireable product.

So they are using the classic audience and game to change abilities etc to see if its really just a over blotation of abilities the strength of the battles faced… or.
A system thats more player driven and confrontational.

Imo
Its not the abilities
Sure the deaths come a bit more when leveling and that gives more sense of danger to the world
But ultimately…

Classic Vanilla is a world that has a base foundation that people can come together and feel like they are wanting to write their own stories… go on their own adventures…

A blank canvas.

Also like it or not… i go back to a quote in 101 dalmations when the kid game tester says “its the desire to annihilate”.

The feeling of working towards something then feeling inferior to another players character gives players the desire to become better and the desire to annihilate. You cant get that in a world of flying mounts that literally allows evasion of combat. An in the current Wow youll never see that person in game again to build up that desire to annihilate.

Oh? Is that all? Hold on, I can answer that!

Alright, SoD is over yall. Answered Blizzard’s question of where things went bad and they started mostly making decisions no one liked. Pack it up and reconvene next week.

Edit: On a side note, rofl that Cata Classic is going to be a thing XD

Looooooooool!

Looking forward to Thursday, where we all log in to wave goodbye to each other, and the server just shuts down.

SoD isn’t the goodbye game, its when they force CATA on folks in august, you will see a ton of subs go buhbye… specifically 60 that i know on my server… aka 60 out of 75 of my guild.

It may well be!

I’m sure we all have opinions on things here or there than we don’t like about Retail, but there are certainly questions as to where the most overlap might be, and how much of this vs that they can give us and have us love it or hate it.

I know for me that RDF is a pretty clear thing I can point to and say, “That’s something that ruined the leveling experience.” but it’s not the only thing. Removing elite mobs, increasing experience gained, and even adding summoning to the meeting stones all play their part in making Azeroth less alive, imo. So does traveling to another land, like Outland or Northrend, and flying, so…

And others will have other ideas and opinions. Will we enjoy SoD? I hope so…

:woman_shrugging:

Shout-out to wod marketing. Got em to pay the fifty bucks.

Blizzard when active players tank once again with Cata and they still don’t see what went wrong.

I’ve had a lot of classic guildies recently try retail and what they really like about it is the class design. The class design in retail is superb. What eventually makes them uninterested in retail is the gameplay loop.

While both retail and classic have chores, the chores in classic are different enough to be acceptable to endure. The retail chores are a bit much and makes a player step back and think “this is not worth my time” while the same happens less often in classic.

Exactly.

Classic’s content is superb but it’s class design is garbage. On the flipside Retail’s class design is superb but it’s content design (the loop) is hot garbage and leads to burnout.

Retail class design melded into classic content (and tuned for the content of course) sounds fun to me. I think Blizzard is slowly doing it with the rune system.

I don’t see how they can’t understand it at this point. Unskippable choreography and dialogue. Zero focus on an elongated leveling experience-- everything’s a pushover. Bloated mini games that require you to participate. Forced grouping with the most toxic community in the universe in order to progress your gear. Vanilla I can just solo pug bgs and get some of the best gear in the game. Even if I lose I still progress; no esports nonsense necessary. Retail forces you into raiding and keys. Too many quests that are Rube Goldberg machines. Instead of just letting me kill stuff, I have to figure out some puzzle on some wacky machine that has unskippable animations or something.

WRONG… retail has issues everwhere… Class design… is horrible everyone can do everything thats just plain stupid. The world is a joke feels like playing in a sandwhich box 2 feet and your in a new zone… Playing as a demigod where i can kill 50 things when levelng wihout much damage is a joke… do i have to go on and on . as to why retail is a pile of stuff my dog leaves out in the yard.

Yeah, how Dare retail have it so every spec is viable! Those fiends! You should write your congressman about this absurdity.

being viable and being able to heal as a non healer big friggin difference.

I know that retail balance is far from perfect, and perhaps even design isn’t perfect, but the way the classes play is far more engaging than what’s on classic, which is what people initially enjoy about retail before leaving due to the gameplay loop.
