I have been enjoying MoP remix. I haven’t dipped my toes into heroic or mythic raiding, and have just been leveling characters and buying transmogs and mounts. I understand there are frustrations with how end game has been handled due to scaling and the gap between the initial grinding players (froggers) and those who didn’t, as well as how strong ‘easy skip’ mechanics like ward keep getting nerfed. But for the vast majority of what MoP remix is - none of that really matters.
What I am talking about is how the entire world is scaled successfully (for the most part outside of the 60-70 range) as well as the raids and dungeons.
Currently we have a system - Chromie time - that is an opt in scaling system that will scale the world to 10 levels behind level cap, this system is fantastic for leveling alts, but it does not scale heroic dungeons or give access to raids while leveling. It also does not go all the way to level cap. Its biggest benefit for this type of system expansion though is that it is opt-in, meaning previous content can still be steam rolled and solo’d by higher level players if they choose not to take part in it.
MoP remix has done something special - it has brought most of a previous expansion to life by giving access not only to its leveling content, but end game storylines (minus the cut ones from Vale, outdoor Siege of Orgrimmar content in Durotar and Barrens, and legendary cape questline) and reputation grinds (sans tillers) as well.
It has also given players incentive to go do these things even if they’d already done them in the past with the bronze currency purchasing transmog collections, mounts, toys, and other fun things you may have missed or are entirely new in the first place. This has populated this content so the people who want to experience something new are able to actually go and enjoy the stuff.
I would like to see some of this brought over to general retail as a way to update Chromie time, and even tie in Timewalking as a way to focus on a certain expansion for a week a month to bring that expansion to life like remix has been brought to life now.
What things am I talking about?
First scaling. I want all chromie time zones to scale from level 10 all the way to whatever level cap currently exists after you have cleared the leveling story for the current expansion once on your account. I also want new characters to be given the option to skip the first levels much like allied races and shadowlands-era death knights can currently and just start in a new area like remix that leads them right into chromie time and the storyline of their choice.
I know the next part is a huge ask, but MoP remix has proved that it is possible and now I want to see it done with the rest - I want to see raids scaled from level 20 to level cap with later raids unlocking at incremental levels - all raids in previous expansions. During timewalking week these raids will receieve additional bonuses such as dropping current-raid level loot much like the current timewalking raids already do. I do not expect all of these to drop at once - that is a lot of raids, but over time I think it would be in this game’s best interest if an evergreen system could be implemented that kept all raids playable without level locking or just being solo’d.
I would also like the threads of fate mechanic to be brought over as a new way to rework Heirloom gear. Currently Heirloom gear works on increasing the effectiveness of rested exp and giving you some additional stats and power after killing enemies and leveling up - I think threads of fate could be a fantastic way to make these items a lot more desireable. I would also like to see them utilize the current gear upgrade system that is used in Dragonflight and MoP remix as opposed to the old system that require you purchasing expensive items on a vendor per-piece. These upgrades could use bronze (yes, I want bronze to carry over to retail - more on that later). To keep the power from possibly pushing into current content, these bonuses and threads of fate will be disabled when chromie time is not active - and chromie time would be automatically disabled in current expansion content. We know Blizzard is capable of doing selective limitation of mechanics like this due to how azerite powers were disabled in the shadowlands and how covenant abilities do not work in Azeroth - we already have a lever they can pull to keep fun side content power from affecting end game.
I would like to see vendors for every expansions’ tier sets and mounts as well as toys and other fun new things to be added to every expansion hub much like they exist in remix. These would use bronze just like they currently do, and much like in MoP remix everything you do in chromie time will generate bronze and feed into this system.
I would also like to see previous challenging content that has been removed introduced over time. The legendary cloak questline didn’t make it to MoP remix, nor did the challenge dungeons - I would like to see these added eventually as well as their rewards. It’s time to unsunset (sunrise?) this content.
Timewalking tying into this event is also important due to MoP remix’s currently population largely being due to it being a huge event during an off-season. Much of the content like raids in Chromie time would not see as much life as MoP remix does. By tying in Timewalking and giving a large incentive to the general playerbase to interact with this content the issue could be resolved by focusing people into a single expansion to chase after those rewards and run things like the raids.
I think MoP remix is fantastic, it isn’t pefect but it definitely gives me hope that World of Warcraft in the future can stop being a game where only the previous 6 months of content really matter, and the past 20 years of content may as well not exist. I want to be able to tell new players coming to this game that they truly can play the entire thing, much like they can in games like Elder Scrolls Online, Star Wars The Old Republic, and Final Fantasy XIV. I think some of the MoP remix systems being brought over to the general game can be a fantastic way to do that and make most of WoW’s content truly evergreen.
