I think it's time WOW had player housing

I’m creating this thread to humbly ask Blizzard to please consider adding player housing to the game. It’s a very common feature in a lot of MMOs today, and I don’t see why it can’t be added to WOW. I know it’s something a lot of players have been wanting for a long time now. Please give ideas ideas as to what y’all would like to see if it were ever added. The other reason I created this thread was for healthy discussion of this topic.

I support putting in actual player housing.

I too support player housing…in World of Warcraft 2.

WoW is stale and starting to fester.

The game has objectively changed so much since classic you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference going in blind if they replaced the Shadowlands subtitle with a giant #2 symbol on the box art.

I have done the equivalent of player housing in SWTOR and RIFT and WOW garrison. Seems it’s useful for maybe trades, or to entertain you in decorating the area, but overall much more time is spend in the latest expansion hub for trades. In some ways, I see player housing as a negative thing, because you really want people to be out in the environment, interacting with others.

Exactly this, we are heroes sent to the far reaches to defend the world, a house isn’t needed.

Repeat after me class:

Garrisons are NOT player housing. They have almost no similarities with player housing. They were blizzards sad attempt and taking the concept of player housing and warping into something no one wanted because as we all know, blizz Devs have repeatedly shown they think they know better than their playerbase when they actually don’t. Not by a long shot.

For tonight’s homework you will write: Garrisons were not player housing 50 times.

Blizzard did their twist on player housing in WoD. Obviously, WoD had many large issues, but the main one was a severe lack of content. The content we were then forced to do was Garrisons, which compounded the issue of player housing in WoW. It drove players away from each other to their own phased-instanced Garrison, which is probably the worst thing you can do in a MMO.

I wanna own a cute tea house. Let’s GOOOO Blizz!

Garrisons were Blizzard’s take on player-housing. If they wanted “real” player housing they would of done that, but they wanted to have their special (bad)take on player housing, and it worked out terrible for them. I doubt they would want to do it again, or should.

Player Housing is the one thing I hope Blizzard NEVER waste any time or resources on.

honestly they don’t know how to implement it without trying to re invent the system… we asked for this before WoD and we got garrisons lol It was a very popular request…

I did mention Rift and Swtor as well - Rift especially had a feature called dimensions that were pretty spectacular - you could really build in them and everyone could visit. Once you had done it tho - what did you do? No point in hanging around in it all day. Anyway WOW garrisons were a version of playing housing.

Copy paste RuneScape player housing and call it a day.

I mean, on the one hand, I really like game features I only ever use once.

On the other hand, I am already in my pajamas.

So everyone on the whole world will roll out the red carpet for you because you’re Azeroth’s CHAMPYON but you still a hobo without a home.

I personally really like the ESO player house system. Maybe something like Final Fantasy’s isn’t a realistic approach (having physical house models players occupy in the actual gamespace) but I think ESO’s approach hits the spot.

It’s instanced so it’s not in the way and it has utility to it. You can have extra storage, mount monster heads on the walls for bosses you’ve killed in the world and dungeons, craft furniture (makes crafting even more relevant) etc.

I would love to have a small hut in Orgrimmar or a small apartment in Stormwind that I could go back to and display my achievements/toys/mounts/pets/armors etc. that I’ve collected in the world.

edit: and now with Shadowlands taking us far away from Azeroth I feel like player housing can be even more relevant. A little piece of Azeroth to call home.

Would have liked a good housing system, but everyone got was Garrisons, which is not what one would call a housing system per say. I honestly feel the Everquest 2 housing system would be best as guild can buy and build their own guild halls as well as player housing. Having guild housing would make for more guild building and a center point for trade, portals ect that can be gained via achievement’s ect. Could create a new “trade skill” that primary in making housing type goods, while adding some others to other crafts like in Everquest 2. Would also work as a money sink, which Blizzard from exp to exp is always trying to work on ways to keep the influx of gold down. ESO has a decent housing system as well, would depend on what direction you wanted, large sum payments to buy (ESO) or Everquest 2, which would be more faction and in a way gold sink as it is more of a Rent fee for continued use outside of the original purchase.

WoW is 95% solo. People barely interact even in dungeons.

So far, I’ve been to lands far and away, traveled through time, killed an old god, had what was my home burned into the sea, and now I’m needed in the after life. So, yea, hobo murderer with no home.
