I think its time to remove factions or allow races to choose which side

Title. I think factions at this point at least from horde POV seems like an unnecessary barrier. At the very least allow all races to just choose which side they wanna hang out with or offer an NPC to do so if were gonna keep it in place.

  • Horde has lost all relevant leaders of power lore wise, we no longer have a warchief and just have some regular joes hanging about in a “council”
  • Alliance basically has the Avengers power wise.

Any real war or forced war situation would be pretty one sided and silly. Fairly certain Malfurion could 1VX whats left of Horde leadership anyway with breaking a sweat.

If were gonna keep factions for sake of warmode then just make it neutral for races, IE you wanna play a tauren alliance side or gnome horde side go for it? I still think its better removed entirely and let players travel the world and cities freely. Battlegrounds should just be composed off players in pool and fill up both sides as needed. Arena and raids and m+ already allow cross faction grouping anyway.

Thanks for reading =D

Just make everybody neutral unless they pick a faction and problem solved.

I have been since day 1 of being a vulpera to side with the alliance and hang out in stormwind.

I dont understand why Ion wont pull the trigger and let the player choose their faction the way pandarens can. The tech is there.

OR it could be a FFA. Make every race its own faction vying for total domination!

player-made alliances is the future. with territorial conquest. and sovereignty zones.

It would be cool if it was FFA or join up with any group you can get to with. Hit exalted and your champion of the Argent Dawn!

But uh oh: the Scarlet Crusade may make a comeback and then the two will wage endless holy wars.

Perfect. I’m definitely here for that!

To be honest we need Loa Power Vol’Jin to come back and balance out the scales, Horde Leadership has lost their teeth. I definitely don’t like the idea of getting rid of Factions all together, but I could be in favor of a very long Rep Grind with a quest chain to kill several high value targets of your original faction to prove you’re really in it for the cause. This game doesn’t survive total faction liquidation. I’d also be able to get behind Faction abandonment, you can choose to forsake your faction and your actions/kills will dictate whether or not the Factions treat you with hostility, but if you want to work with a Faction you’ll have to grind back up to it.

Thrall, Calia, Baine, Rokhan, Lor’themar, Gazlowe… Yep, not relevant at all…

So?

Yep, all those guys I mentioned above are just “regular Joes”…

Turalyon lost his light infusion during the Argus campaign and is only serving as Regent Lord, the Council of Three Hammers amounts to a Mountain King, a gryphon rider, and a Shadow Priest, Malfurion and Tyrande are on vacation and left Shandris in charge, Mekkatorque and his battle suit, Velen who is more concerned about repairing relations with the Krokul than using his spaceship to affect the world of Azeroth in any way, and Genn who retired to leave his daughter in charge of their recovering city. Yeah, I’m not feeling the Avengers vibe you think they have.

Then why didn’t that happen in Battle for Azeroth?

It’s only been like five years since the Fourth War ended…

So…pandaren?

I don’t think factions will ever fully be removed, but hopefully restrictions will be lifted to the point where it becomes more of a cosmetic difference than anything.

I don’t even care about the faction “war” these days. If it means less queue time for anything in the game and more players doing things then that’s a big plus. It’s just a shame you can’t do outworld content with your friends(cross-faction), like quests etc, at least afaik.

Hate to say it, those first 3??? are already alliance.

Yes baine is a regular fighter no super powers or special abilities. Has always been cozy to the alliance. Rokhan is just a regular troll, Lorthemar is also just a regular hunter. Gazlowe? Are we really listing him? Calia is a priest and friendly with alliance for obvious reasons.

Out of all the named above Thrall is someone of power lorewise but also an alliance enthusiast.

Yes they are all regular joes. They are not demi gods or city destroying super mages on par with Khadgar.

It did and now Sylvanas is exiled to the maw and Nathanos is dead.

I mean I get it, its noble to argue for the “war” in Warcraft but when one side is gets to the “bad” guys and lose you kind of run out of people to kill.

Garrosh was a great warchief and leader until they served him up as the villain. Sylvanas was also an exceptionally good warchief and should have remained so. Then they decided to give her a Garrosh arc and get rid of her and Nathanos. Extra bonus to dispose of Saurfang in process too.

Now its just a rabble of regular joes hanging out serving as council. I think Voss might be the most notably strongest of the council members lore wise. Don’t think its really enough to stand up to Jaina/Malfurion/Tyrande though.

Anyway this is moot debate, were unlikely to ever see war between the factions return to warcraft. The days of powerful warchief and cold war faction hostility is gone.

A human in The Horde though?

I can maybe see a questline put in that you can do so enemy guards wouldn’t outrightly kill you, you’ll just be orange and have rotten fruit thrown at you. It would be nice to open up cross-faction to queues but I can see some people getting upset over that. I think they had code limitations for opening cross-faction more to the outside world or something? I think this is more or less as much as it is ever going to be cross-faction tbh. Hope I am wrong.

You already have night elf warlocks, light forged warlocks and soon undead and void elf paladins when they go every race. Followed by gnome/mecha gnome druids at some point

Were well beyond lore limitations at this point.

I wouldn’t even bother with factions. Do they really achieve anything at this point in time other than being a minor inconvenience with how much stuff is cross-faction now?

I’d be down for having to earn reputation with Horde factions to be able to visit their cities, etc. kind of like a less extreme grind on the Booty Bay / Bloodsail Buccaneers, or Ravenholdt and Syndicate.
