I think I’m too old for MMOs

I’ve played WoW forever, but the older I get, the harder to play it becomes. As someone who works, goes to school, is a parent, playing this game for real just requires too much time that I don’t have.

As much as I have enjoyed playing, WoW just feels like weekly chores, that I’ve realized as I become older with more responsibilities, I don’t really want to keep up with anymore. I already have so little time to spare, spending on weekly chores just feels sucky. Torghast, Maw, Vault unlocks, callings and campaign quest take up probably 90% of my spare time. It’s gotten to the point of where I’m telling myself, “Uhg it’s reset already” and dreading doing my weekly chores. I would prefer to play WoW I think, but it’s so much easier to play a game like Battlefront or any campaign game where I can hop on and off with no real obligation to continue playing. I think the biggest issue with someone with shorter limits on time such as myself is there is no gear cap, rather gear is perpetually weakened over time as new content is released.

To be clear, I think Blizzard has done a great job, I’m not namecalling Blizzard or saying the game should change. I just think I’m outgrowing MMOs because of the formula they all seem to follow (time=>gear=>performance).

I feel sad to say this, but Im really losing my desire to log in. Anyone else feel the same way?

People keep saying this but you’re never too old to game. You can have cognitive or time issues that block it but those are not, strictly, an age thing.

No, WoW has just gotten out of touch with the players.

In regards to grinds and what not, I find it’s easier to just play one character and appreciate what you have and don’t worry if you have full 233s or full 210s or not.

I know some people like different classes but grinding renown, soul ash and legendaries is incredibly un fun across multiple characters and tolerable on 1-2.

Quit school and you job, its a waste of time. Devote your life to WoW as I have, you will be much happier with nothing but WoW in your life.

Not all MMOs are this bad about chores though. I can not play GW2 or ESO for weeks if I wanted and then hop back in and pick up where I left off and it isn’t a big deal. Maybe it isn’t that MMOs aren’t for you anymore, but rather that this MMO isn’t.

That’s fair to say. Maybe one day when my children are old enough to take care of themselves and I’m retired, I’ll have the time! Gonna be awhile though :stuck_out_tongue:

This is part of why I decided to call it quits this expansion as well. I really enjoy the world of Azeroth but I just don’t want to spend literally all of my time in that game.

I will be playing other games that demand slightly less of it.

I don’t know if it has anything to do with age though, I just don’t like spending that much time in game every day. I’m not like these other kinds of people who want to farm mythic+ and raids 24/7.

I’ve been posting on here that I feel the same way for a while now.

I can squeeze it in during evenings and the weekend sometimes. I have the same responsibilities, minus the school part - done enough of that - but my job is pretty demanding. I just don’t have the energy anymore. Perhaps more importantly, I just don’t care like I used to.

I find turn based games are more fitting, and enjoyable. Solo games in general are much more enjoyable.

It might be time to adjust what you do in the game, if you want to stay. I know that I might have to drop what I’m doing at any time, so I generally don’t get into things that require a time commitment. There are still a lot of things to do, that might not be what you got into the game for.

Not a function of age. It’s a matter of priorities and responsibilities. RL always takes precedence. And eventually, as the RL pressures start to wane, you may rediscover your desire to play MMOs again.

Or not.

I’m 52. So what? Just reprioritize what it is you do while playing wow. If raids and such are too much trouble, do something else. PVP could be good for you, or building rep. Anything that’s short lived and doesn’t require a time sink.

You’re not too old you’re just not interested in the time sink. That’s fine but it’s not an age thing.

Can you imagine how difficult it is to give millions of gamers of many ages and all backgrounds enough to do but not too much to do? And given how thankless GD is, no wonder Blizzard reps never post on the forums.

Growing old is inevitable. Growing up is optional.

Find your fun. Either in this game or the next.

Hey man that’s why I said I wasn’t blaming Blizzard at all. It’s a personal issue, not Blizzards problem

I think this is part of my problem. I love the world and areas but I don’t really feel like spending hours and hours and hours and hours.

This is me right here. I have one lvl 60, and I will not be playing alts this expansion, at least not until the end-of-expansion lull. I’m not doing much other than logging in for raid. And if that’s not good enough, well then I’ll have to move on to another raid group.

that’s not a result of age. it’s a result of time mismanagement.

From time to time, I get like this. It’s why I’ve expanded my gaming to include other games that aren’t nearly as time consuming or ‘chorey’.
