I think brewmaster monks need a least one skill that uses their weapon

I have a fancy weapon and all I do is kick, punch… I know it’s all in the mind but even a martial arts grandmaster such as my character should be able to use their weapon for one or two skills…

Like for example, use my weapon as a stick to support my weight to vault over something or do a drop kick or slash a enemy to follow up with a punch or kick.

Let’s go full fighting game mechanics and let us jump diagonally and do a dive kick at the enemy.

Even the legendary brewmaster Chen Stormstout was able to swiftly defeat both the warriors of the Alliance and the Horde with his fancy weapon in the opening cinematic of Mists of Pandaria so it is not out of place for a brewmaster monk to sometimes use their weapon…

What do you think?

Back in Legion, Brewmasters had an alternate version of Blackout Kick called “Blackout Strike” which caused them to smack the enemy with their staff.

Not sure why they reverted it since then, or why Brewmasters don’t just hold every staff they same way they hold their artifact weapon from Legion.

I was saying this out loud to myself as I read the title of your thread.
I’ve been played like a fiddle.

I love your ability concepts! I think more should be taken from Chen, absolutely.
I would personally like a Channeled ability that drinks from a keg that constantly generates shields. Like Fleshcraft but monk themed.

And I think Blackout Kick should have a glyph to turn it into Blackout strike for people who like using their weapons.

Personally I don’t like using weapons as a monk. But it should be an option for those that do.

I agree with using the weapon more.

It’s funny, because, unlike the Windwalker, nearly all their attacks just use the stats on the weapon and could care less about the damage of the weapon.

I was mad about that, Blackout Strike was one of the coolest animations in the game, too

This is exactly what glyphs are for. Some people like it, some people don’t.

I miss jab as a builder over tiger palm. Looked cooler.

Blackout strike was neat in legion, too.

Martial arts include weapons. Not all of them are focused solely on unarmed combat. There’s actually quite a few disciplines across the world that are focused solely on armed combat.

So… yes, monks should use their weapons.

Yes but they need to MAKE the glyph first.

Bugs the crap out of me that a lot of classes don’t use their weapons for things, mostly the stave users. I think monks should have some Donatello moves, swinging the stave or even polearm around, hooking the enemy and tossing them, doing the Neo Matrix move where you plant it on the ground and run in a circle in the air. I also always thought staves should be slammed into the ground for mages and warlocks and blasting out powers that way as well, or at least holding them out in front of them while it glows. It’s just weird to me that the vast majority of moves the stave or polearm just sits on their back while they do their powers. It’s bad enough WW monk doesn’t really use their weapons unless they are fist weapons as well. meh.

Or at least let Monks hide their weapons. Can you transmog them out?

Martial arts is cool and all with weapons, but it’s definitely more than your standard WoW weapon whack. They’d need more animations and something tells me they’re not too interested in doing all that.

Seems to be a problem with most MMO’s honestly. Seems like a lot of them are cutting corners these days. Can’t get a new animation without there being some cost wall behind it.

Either that or an option to hide the weapon all together like Windwalkers have.

It’s highly doubtful monks will ever use their weapon for anything besides stats. The whole reason why WoW monks came to exist is because pandaren slaves literally werent allowed to even hold a weapon. So they learned to channel chi and make their own body the weapon. If monks suddenly start using weapon blows what are they then? Smacking someone with a hammer isn’t monk stuff. Spinning crane kick is.

Monks used to have weapon animations. I miss them. Right now the weapons just stay in your back being dead weight.

I dual wield on my BrM and transmog the weapons to Grappling Handwraps. This hides the weapons. I figure if I never use weapons in combat anymore, I may as well look as if I’m not carrying any.

I loved the previously mentioned Blackout Strike that BrM had in Legion. The animation for it was you swinging your weapon. It looked really cool with the artifact appearances, especially the beefy hidden artifact appearance for BrM.

There’s literally a monk at the shrine that is a weapons master monk of all types.

Yet just punches and kicks.

A glyph to opt into armed combat vs. unarmed combat would be sweet.

The idea of beating up all kinds of gods and demons and powered up enemies with my fists and stuff is fun, but I also love dual wielding these sick swords I use and would love to see them in action.

The change came when they allowed Brewmasters to dual-wield, beginning in Shadowlands.

The Blackout Strike animation was for a 2-hander. Rather than create an animation for dual-wielding Blackout Strike (or just, ya know, copy one of the many other dual-wield weapon animations already in the game), they removed the weapon appearance entirely and just renamed it “Blackout Kick”.

Same with windwalker plz
