Before you get the torches.
What I mean by this is actually invest time and effort into things that, coming from a role play server would be big deals but also have great overall functions.
From just basic thought of these things it’s stuff like.
Housing (unphased and both player and guild versions )
Player control ship sailing and battle.
Better guild functions/abilities
Easier player hosted tournament.
Less restrictions on mog(just let us mog all armor types at this point, kinda odd npc get to do it but not us)
It’s not asking for over the top changes(besides the ship one, creating a open and actual filled ocean is definitely not a easy thing.) but I think that it’s little features like these that would be huge steps for blizzard and the game.

Something we all want but may never get. Sadly, garrisons might be our only option for player housing.

You aren’t asking for over the top changes? The ship and housing are both huge ones that would take a ton of resources and time.
Considering Blizzards recent stance on “we want people to be in the world around other people” (regardless if you agree with it), it would be a complete 180 to suddenly allow housing where everyone can go off by themselves. Everyone hiding in garrisons during WoD was a major player complaint at the time of the expansion.
Housing can’t be unphased. There are too many players. There has to be phasing of some sort. How EQ1 did it, for example, is there would be a Housing_Zone. But once it filled up, it would spawn a new version of the same zone.
You’d have Housing_Zone1, Housing_Zone2, etc
Basically EQs version of phasing.

I think the ‘cost you a raid tier’ mentality that they seem to focus on makes designing grand systems outside dungeons and raids unappealing to them. But if they add things that are really engaging in the open world they may not need to focus so hard on the raids because people would have something to do that was not raid focused.
The ship one is only from the point of needing to actually open the ocean up and fill it. the boat controls? they already have the vehicle mechanics down, both single and group controlled mechanics.
Housing? there’s -PLEEEENTY- of games they mixmatch to create one for the game, a mix of open world housing and a instanced area for instance houses(ff housing pretty much.)
No, what blizzard needs to do is take an expansion off and stop implementing crap people don’t want
I agree that I want to see more RP stuff. But some or your ideas won’t work.
Garrison is the closest you’ll get to housing. I don’t see them making another attempt considering how much people hated it. That being said, I’d like them to bring back the Garrison feature and improve upon it, because I loved it.
Ocean battles. Dude I this isn’t sea of theives, and right now the only faction with a fleet worth a darn is alliance. Where would horde suddenly have all these shops from? I’d rather see more warfronts, siege battles like WG, etc… And we are getting that.
Guilds could use a revamp on abilities, agreed. They did something super cool in cata with the guild rewards and promptly abandoned the idea.
Player hosted tournaments…well I guess they could put a player made mission board in org/SW but I don’t see a need for it
As for the mog, I disagree. It doesn’t make sense for a demon Hunter to be running around in plate armor. It doesn’t make sense for a warrior to be running around in a cloth dress. Mog restrictions in that sense should stay. I think they should loosen up on the artifact and level restrictions though.
None of this dictates and expansion worth of content though. Maybe a patch, but not an expansion.
This all sounds cool, but if they can’t even balance the game properly for core things do we really think any of this would work?
Could you imagine the grind they would introduce to unlock this stuff…
The problem with garrisons was that you could pretty much do everything without ever having to step outside, including gathering materials.
Housing should just be a nice place to chill out between adventures, and should be minimalist in terms of functionality.
Ff14 does it too. There’s even a bigger mansion for companies, with individual rooms for the members of the company. One housing area has like 30 houses.

This.
But it’s not just unappealing to Blizzard, it’s unappealing to the average player, too. You eat a raid tier (or god forbid 2 in the same expansion) and you’ll have people raging and mass quitting, because they’ll be well aware it’s because they spent all the art resources on housing elements, let alone whatever resources having a relevant sailing feature would entail (it couldn’t just be “ok have a boat”, there’d be no general gameplay purpose).
Housing specifically is something I’d love, if done properly (I suspect Blizzard would just give us the lazy Skyrim-esque completionist task list version, not the creative version people actually like). But it’s also something that’s very hard to add once the game is live. Trying to add it now WILL cost content, and people won’t accept a 6 month delay on an expansion just to make up for that.

exactly and the stuff to decorate comes from all other sources of gameplay, it encourges players to do other content.
my only issue is honestly a balanced way to accompany enough of a spread of housing without a giant restriction…cause this far in, rich players would just buy all the plots and make a manoply.

Will never happen if there are several instances of the housing areas. If all the rich blokes buy areas 1 through 10, it still leaves 11 and up to the others.
Simple, you don’t artificially limit how many plots/wards there are. Solved. Square handles housing absolutely horribly, to the point where people actually unsub from FFXIV because it’s a nightmare scenario to try and use the housing feature on a populated server. Right now, if a plot opens up, you have to go camp it for anywhere from 30 minutes to 22 hours while doing nothing else because you have to run a keyboard macro to have a chance in hell of actually being the one who gets to buy the plot when the hidden RNG timer runs out. And more than likely someone who already owns a house relocates to the new spot halfway through anyway so you have to go start the process over at THEIR old plot now. Mother of god, please, no.
Personally I’d rather have Wildstar’s method. They let you link up different peoples’ plots anyway so simulate that neighborhood thing FFXIV has going on.

ok…so the openness of ff14 but not the actual claiming of plots, cause that sounds annoying and frustrating as Fuk.
where is the DANCE STUDIO BLIZZARD?!

do ppl really care tht still?
Luckily I was carrying some torches on me.
I wouldn’t mind player housing, that is one thing I miss from some other games I have played but the rest I honestly don’t care about.
