As I understand, gold from old items in raids is getting nerfed in Shadowlands. I think it may be nerfed for a similar reason as looms. Shadowlands leveling will be much much faster and thus people will have more alts and it will be easier to farm gold on many alts.

When they made the LongBoy limited time it was a way for Blizzard to see how players would get gold. Lots of Youtube videos suggested raw gold farming from old raids. Blizzard did the Limited LongBoy thing to understand how to nerf gold making.

Actually the explanation is much simpler.
The level squish is scaling gold down and BlizZard can’t do the napkin math to fix it.
Millions and billions of dollars and they can’t do math.

Probably because the level squish isn’t scaling gold, and wouldn’t make sense, as your level doesn’t affect your amount of gold.

Gold value of drops and gear values are impacted. This is on the PTR.

They would do anything to farm gold. That’s no surprise
That’s how Blizzard works. They find the preferred way players like to do things and nerf it. Now players will find some other way of making gold and the cycle continues until Blizzard locks everything down. Its about control!

Did Blizzard actually say this was an intended change? I just assumed it was an unintended side effect of all the gear being lower lvl now. Granted, I also assumed that they would never get around to fixing it either.

That’s a shame. I don’t know why they’re breaking the pattern now. Sure, Original through Cata is crap gold. MoP is still ok but the real money comes from WoD and Leg. They should have left us Leg and BfA for Shadowlands.

Gold nerfing makes sense for a business like Blizzard, share driven companies will manage the way they MAKE money. Lets face it Blizzard makes money and a lot of it from easy Token sales online while we play the game . They learned from gold sellers that there’s big business in gold sales , so why would it surprise anyone that they nerfed gold making , its another reason why professions seem useless as well. They would rather have players buy gold than to make gold from farming mats

raw gold nerfs happen at the beginning of most xpacs. this was going to happen regardless of leveling speed. if not this time, then later on down the road. it has little, if not nothing, to do with the increase in leveling speed. its to keep inflation down and keep the wow economy somewhat stable. its the same reason we have gold sink mounts, and with the brutosaur being removed from vendors, the biggest gold sink is going away. nerfing raw gold farms balances that out.

They need to be buffing gold making methods, not nerfing them. I never sold carries in WoD or Legion because I could make plenty of gold to fund raiding, M+ and CM from the mission tables with alts. However in BFA it’s impossible to fund raiding and M+ without either selling carries or buying tokens.

Gold was nerfed from old raids in Legion or WoD. IMO when they did that, it wasn’t even worth doing for gold anymore unless you were trying for mogs/pets/mounts also. You used to make some good coin before that nerf. If they are nerfing it again then that is kind of lame because you don’t make that much as it is.
