Not really a discussion. I’m just bad at it. I lose to other Mages when they’re not at full hp, most classes that can go toe-to-toe with Mages own me, and I get flustered every time I’m in a PvP scenario.
It’s still fun, I enjoy it immensely too. I’m sure I’ll get better. I watch videos and have started to duel outside of Org but the point of this post is nothing other then to admit I suck.
I think my main problem boils down to I played Mage almost exclusively in MoP as frost, when it was a very overpowered ranged Rogue class.
I think mage vs mage is who crits first honestly. It always goes the same way you both nova, cone, fire blast, then spam arcane explosion until someone dies. Whoever crits most often wins
I am not bad at pvp, a little over the middle crowd for sure but not exceptionaly good. What I suck at though, is AOE farming… I just can’t, for anything in the world, farm ZF !!! LOL
And it’s not that I am bad at pve either, that, I am pretty good… but AOE farming, god I suck bad !! LOL
My other biggest downfall is I was/have been very very good at PvE and my rotations.
I always have a notion that a fight will go a certain way, and when they do something off key it throws off my whole game. I have very bad reactions outside what I expect.
This sounds like good advice, but actual PvP healing is at least as hard, if not harder than being a good DPS class in PvP.
You are target priority #1. You can’t always rely on your DPS to peel for you, so you need to learn how to aggressively cast cancel and juke interrupts.
You need to learn when to kite, and when to hard cast.
You need to know when you can help harass, and when it’s time to turtle down and spam those heals.
It’s not easy being a PvP healer in Classic WoW, where healers are actually killable, and you don’t have to wait until Dampening kicks in to have a prayer of dropping one. On top of pushback having no limit in Classic, Healing is actually an incredibly high skill ceiling role.
I have nothing but respect for the people who decided they prefer Healing over DPS in a PvP environment.
Yeah sometimes you run into people that are sweaty and will try to blink your cone or ice block your combo… then you just die cause he has his still up unless you block his as well. It’s not very fun honestly the whole one shot or be one shot style of classic pvp. In retail it was more of a ongoing battle since your rotation wasn’t instant cast.
I rolled a Shaman back in the day and played it decently. I think Ristra hit the point home in the fact I would just get really geared Warriors teaming up with me for those phat WF procs. Gave me a false sense that I was good, but really they were just great.
I am rusty on it as a Lock too. I keep forgetting that burst is better, and that we have little hp pools so dots are only ideal if you can get the enemy to stop bursting you down.
I haven’t done any group PvP just yet. It has worked out when I have done it before but mainly because I can just try to hide while prodding and poking.
A few times leveling I actually excelled at PvP! Sheeping a priest then killing their buddy (its good for me!). Just 1v1 hasn’t gone well so far.
I wouldn’t consider myself bad but I’m definitely not great. Either way I can very much relate to panicking or having a brain fart and doing something stupid in the heat of the moment
