There are lots of reasons for this. It forces you to take some lame abilities, it does nothing about the real problem with the Hunter tree (being that there’s no real choices, you’re making a cleave build as BM) and for some inexplicable reason Trailblazer got moved from the top to the bottom of the tree. Why? Also, where is Death Chakram?
The top part of the general Hunter tree is littered with useless talents. In the current tree I used to feel pretty good about my hunter toolkit by level 20-25. I had a lot of useful abilities and was mostly a hunter. This was one of the best aspects of DF trees. Now? It seems to take until level 50-60 to get those same abilities. Why?
And don’t get me started on the BM tree. It looks like a ton of talents were just thrown at a wall. Llike why is Multi-Shot below Animal Companion?
I was hoping this would’ve changed but it seems to have remained unchanged in the last month. If this is the choice, please don’t change anything. Just leave the current tree alone because the new TWW tree, well, sucks.
Like what?
Tar Trap, Concussive Shot, SOTF, Counter Shot and Tranq Shot are absolutely useful talents.
And if your issue is more about the passives well what tree doesn’t have passives? There’s 61 talents to spend. You’re going to have passives.
What’s wrong with it? They’re both so early in the tree it’s not like you have to commit to anything.
Death Shakram is gone because it was a mandatory pick up & offered nothing of value to the rotation.
I can’t agree with you. TWW tree is so much better than the DF tree.
I hate Death Chakram being gone because it and Wailing Arrow were thematically appropriate with Dark Ranger, and looked great. Now there is pretty much nothing linking BM to DR except random darkhound summons.
Things are starting to get better. Still missing Trailblazer and now Pathfinding. Kill Command has more oomph, so that’s nice. The above TWW build could also steal a point for Barrage if you’re so inclined.
Below max level? I absolutely never use any of these abilities below 70 other than Counter Shot. And even at 70 it’s rare enough.
So why even make you choose if that’s the case? Why not just have 61 talent points?
Thank you for conceding my point: it does matter when you get abilities. Losing all the hunter mobility talents until level 50+ is a big negative change for absolutely no reason.
Whle levelling, nothing lives long enough for utility ot matter. Now if you want to talk M+ or raiding or PvP utility, be my guest. But that’s a level 70 activity. So mobility and DPS is the only thing that matters until then but the mobility talents have been moved to the end of the tree and the utility is right at the start.
So you’re agreeing with me: the new tree is strictly worse.
Kill Command is on the general Hunter tree and free (for BM). In TWW, it’s moved to the BM tree and not free. So you have llost a talent point because you have excess talent points on the general tree and not enough on the BM tree.
So give the abilities that are useful for levelling earlier (like they are now) because it makes absolutely no differentce at max level.
I don’t understand why leveling is so important to you tbh. It hasn’t mattered in the game for almost 20 years. I’m curious as to why you’re so focused on this.
I’ve deciphered what you’re concerned about here, losing a talent point that is being forced into KC as opposed to it being in the class tree and essentially giving you an extra point in the spec tree. With that in mind, I offer you this to think about: DF BM spec tree has 12 nodes worth 2 points. TWW BM spec tree has ONLY 4 nodes that cost 2 points. So you’re saving points on those nodes. Note at least ONE of those savings is on Stomp, a staple BM hunter talent so you’re guaranteed a break-even there alone.
Putting aside the gold medal mental gymnastics and putting words into other peoples mouths, here you’re saying DPS/Mobility > Utility for the irrelevant leveling content you’re concerned about. In the DF class tree, you dont even get a CHANCE to touch ANY SORT of output dps node until the last tier of the tree. In TWW you get throughput nodes as early as lvl 26 for Specialized Arsenal and lvl 28 for Explosive Shot (which used to be a capstone talent) and options for more dps nodes from level 30-38 if you choose (they’re pretty good, I recommend).
So now lets re-contextualize your complaint here.
You’re upset at losing Trailblazer (Gain 30% movement speed after not attacking for 3 sec.) and gaining earlier access to 5 GREAT DPS nodes (+10% KC dmg, Explosive Shot, +8% ES dmg, +4% crit, and +5% AS for you and your pet). Trailblazer also is useless in open-world content after lvl 20 when you get your 60% mount. By your own logic (dmg/mobility > utility) you’re gaining a LOT more than you’re losing.
But this entire complaint is rendered moot outside of leveling, a minuscule percent of the game, so you’re basically screaming into the void. It would be more productive to buy a beltbox and to feel the catharsis irl than to post here.
Azortharion has a very good video about the current hunter and a lot of talking about MM recently and I pretty much agree with everything he says in terms of the criticism of the current tree and things that need to change. People want more changes and it seems like we kind of just got 1 big set of changes and then little tweaks meanwhile mages and warlocks exist and have been getting substantial changes every week for weeks and weeks and weeks now.
I hope to see more substantial changes soon. I ESPECIALLY want to see the hero talents pretty much completely reworked (dark ranger the most), but yeah… hunter isn’t just good to go lol they need to do more than just 1 big pass.
trailblazer should get swapped with rejuvenating wind.
a huge portion of this player base are casuals who just level characters. having trailblazer while questing feels great. having rejuvenating wind while leveling is basically unnoticeable.
sure, there’s a ton of people who only play one copy of a class, or who only level through dungeons, and the current beta positioning isn’t relevant for them. but don’t we all know at least one whackjob person that has a million hunters and is always leveling them?
