Do they just get reincarnated at their covenant, or do they just cease to exist, or is there another plane of death?
Does anyone know?

I don’t understand why people mute game sounds, ignore text that appears on screen, skip the Maw, grind through dungeons, and then act like they care about the lore.
There is no ambiguity or uncertainty. We are told “the rules”. It’s all in-game.
Don’t they just become anima? That bit was so long ago.
They go to BFA.
shudders
Care to explain the rules then? I wouldn’t have asked the question if I remembered the answer.
Beings that are central to the shadowlands like dredgers or swolekins die but are always eventually reincarnated into another similar being. Things like mortals that come to the shadowlands after they die are turned into anima and as far as we’re aware, their conciousness ceases to exist.
It is better to just clear your mind and not waste time trying to think this through.
Ignorance is truly bliss in this case.
I just kinda roll along with the flow. Doing my own thing. NPC’s - they come and go.
Blizz gonna do their thing, I’m gonna do mine…
They respawn.
They meet their final death. They are vaporized.
It depends on the soul and how much anima they accrued in life and death. Some are reincarnated, some are used for spare parts, some are decreased to mere anima and cease to exist. In The Maw, their anima is stripped from them and they are turned into armor and weapons. It is pretty crappy for an afterlife to be honest.
It’s sort of dumb to be able to die in the afterlife here your dead! Arbiter decides where to send you… you die again? Now your battery juice.
Ashes to ashes, and dust to dust.
Indeed. They alternate between calling it “final death” and “true death”, but it’s clear as day. There is no ambiguity whatsoever.
The entire idea that the afterworld is a corporeal realm baffles me as well.
Methinks it matches real life, because of Bastion being like heaven, Revendreth being like purgatory, and the Maw being like hell.
woah thats messed up

Death in the Shadowlands is final.
Taskmaster Matyas: “Kneel? You expect me to kneel before you? Absurd, as always Nadjia. I will give you the true death when next we meet.”
I have a feeling this is one of the reasons Stewards are so innately cowardly. We can see that they’re created as “featherlings” and taught their craft as they grow. With the investment in time and energy needed to create these creatures that are intended to do specific tasks, the last thing you want is them to be is brave or curious. That leads to dead owls. Self-preservation is just good economics.
I don’t know about you people but every boss I’ve ever killed comes back. Magic.
