The glaring aspect here is that Db is at most a 45 CD that can be boosted to 30s CD.
Where as to get 4 riders, you need at best 1.5 min CD.
So you are getting 2 pillars and 2 Db compared to 1 four horseman CD every 1.5 min.
I can see. If the horseman did such huge burst that equates to what 2 cycles of Db output, but it doesn’t at all.

DB is damage on demand. Lines up with PoF at 45 seconds perfectly.
Rider is bad because it’s mostly RNG and DnD cleave doesn’t actually matter unless you have KM every GCD/PoF if you screwed up your own 2 charges of DnD and Mograine just happens to be there.
Pretty sure every guide is saying db is better. Not sure where you heard otherwise?
FwF is 1.5min CD, but you also forget the riders can proc outside of that too, as well as all the passive damage modifiers the hero tree provides.
I play riders because the mobility is very nice, and having less global’s to press for my burst is also convenient. I don’t think there is too much of a gap between them tbh.
Riders for me but that’s part laziness/QoL. Better mobility, less bindings and those free DnDs are too good to give up. Yes it sims worse but they are still tuning and personally it’s not all about raw dps. If I had a complaint of any kind it’s the RNG nature of both hero specs but it’s a minor thing as it stands.
Someone posted somewhere it was at least as good.
Maybe it was til they nerfed it a lot in beta.
Db I do like except the randomness of the damage.
Sometimes it’ll do 2.5 to 3.5 mil crits, and at other times I see 800k to 1million.
So frustrating.
I’m also seeing that haste may be playing a bigger part than we think than crit mastery.
Most likely procs making a big difference in reaper outcomes. Proc trinkets and fc can combine to make massive differences in AP.
100% agree. I started it on the DB bandwagon, but after switching the rider QoL is just for good. But also I’m still blasting massive numbers, so I don’t really care about min maxing for ABC extra few % dps.
Nobody posting on the forums is good enough to feasibly justify aggressively minmaxing their hero talents over just getting better at playing Death Knight.
They are close. Rider has added utility and saves you GCDs. DB improves burst and high rolls into quite a bit of damage.
Pick the one you want because video games are supposed to be fun.
Just to add to this you could always wait it out a bit if you are planning on pushing +m, raiding or pvp then check murlok. io it’ll show the top players and what talents, gear and enchants they are using. I don’t aggressively follow it but it can be very helpful.
Yes I was wondering about that. I feel haste does play a bigger role.
