I spent $70 to exactly prove that these MASSIVE crafting bugs exist

Background:

I’ve been trying to get my rank 4 Dredger’s Plate Breastplate recrafted to rank 5 since the early access ended. After days of no one being able to successfully do it, I decided to make an alt character and purely specialize in Breastplate crafting to try and knock it out myself. In doing so, I discovered multiple MAJOR bugs with Breastplate crafting and general Armorsmithing crafting.

To do this as quickly as possible, I opted to purchase a level 70 character boost. I also had to waste about 120k gold to AH boost my Blacksmithing skill on this new character. Again, this translates to wasting more money in favor of finding out why Breastplate crafting is bugged. I did not want to do this. I would have preferred to keep playing my main and with the extra gold in my pocket.

With this new character I have the following points allocated to these Armorsmithing Specializations:

Armorsmithing: 30/30 (total bonus skill for this specialization is 75)
Large Plate Armor: 30/30 (total bonus skill for this specialization is 50)
Breastplates: 25/25 (total bonus skill for this specialization is 60)

Total skill including bonuses from these 3 above specializations is 185.

This represents the absolute maximum skill you can achieve in the game for crafting breastplates via these specializations.

The bugs:

Bug 1: The “Large Plate Armor” and “Breastplates” specializations DO NOT apply their allocated skill. They absolutely should and this in my opinion is game breaking.

Bug 2: Dredger’s Plate Breastplate DOES NOT list any reagents to be specified when filling out a recrafting work order. This is a huge issue as all other items that I’ve recrafted have had the option to specify Bismuth reagents. The UI does not populate any reagents. This is less severe, but still really bad because losing out on Bismuth rank 3 reagent might be the reason someone could get it to rank 5.

Bug 3: The “Sculpted Armor” specialization’s allocated points are counting towards the crafting skill when crafting breastplates. I don’t believe this is intended. If it is intended, it’s absolutely not clear that investing in Sculpted Armor will help you make better breastplates.

Conclusion:
Two of these bugs (bug 1 and bug 2) are preventing me from taking my current rank 4 breastplate to rank 5. This is a big deal to me because it means I’ve wasted 30 weathered harbinger crests. Again, this is a huge loss for me as I’ve been trying to stay competitive with being one of the top players in ilvl. I know this specific issue won’t affect me in the coming weeks as the gear is going to be replaced by higher ilvl items, but still, when you are trying to be at the top, every little bit matters.

I’m really frustrated that I had to spend real money to gather this data. Again it ties back to wanting to get back to playing my main to stay competitive.

I 'm really surprised bug 1 and bug 2 shipped with the launch. These are major issues and should have been captured by your engineering and QA teams.

What should ideally happen next:

  1. An announcement of some kind should be made available to all players alerting them to these issues (at least bug 1). You can brick one of your entire professions if you decide to armorsmith breastplates right now. I would have adjusted my crest spending strategy had I known about this beforehand.

  2. I’d like to be refunded for my character boost. The character can be removed from my account.

  3. I want my main to be compensated the gold that was spent to boost the blacksmithing skill on my newly boosted character.

  4. I want the issues solved before Season 1 goes live.

I hope I’ve been clear and concise. Let me know if you need any other info. I’m happy to help move this forward.

I highly doubt Blizzard is going to be refunding you for your choice to boost a character to investigate a bug, but i absolutely agree that it is pretty significant that these bugs exist at all. The other armour pieces seem to be working as intended, but for some reason the Chestpieces are completely broken. If this is not fixed by next reset I’ll be very concerned. Ive also submitted bug reports myself since I also discovered it yesterday but didnt realise the problem til today.

I’m hoping it gets patched in the maintenance on Thursday. Fingers crossed.

you arent getting a refund. buying a boost had nothing to do with them, you willingly did it.

I wonder if its a similar issue to what I am having with recrafting my tailoring chestpiece. All the other slot recrafts look fine but that one recraft wise is totally not ok. Sad when currently the only option (at least for me) is to blow another 300 acuity to craft my profession item from scratch again to get max rank since it is impossible to recraft it at max rank currently

It’s possible that it’s related to the same issue.

In other news, RIP, this wasn’t fixed with today’s maintenance. I’m not happy about this.

Here we are on September 8 and this issue is still not fixed. All 3 of the problems you reported are still present.

It’s pretty much impossible to craft a r5 chest piece without wasting concentration and skill reagents.

Thanks for the reports! This issue has been fixed today.

“Thanks for the reports! The bug has been fixed!”
“Refunds? Did you ever mention that?”
“Oh I don’t see that, period, you didn’t say that huh?”

So you’re just not going to refund the money or the crests even though they had to pay you 70 dollars just to find a game breaking bug that was no doubt reported in alpha and beta and just wasnt fixed?

That’s crazy.

Nah, a blind man can see the system is designed to sell boosts.

Oh damn so that’s how it works?! How much money do I have to spend for them fix the +50% pilfer rate for engineers in the ingenuity subspec? Also, the inventing buff has a broken tooltip and doesn’t reflect the 150 all profession stats it is supposed to give in the recipe details so who knows if that’s even working

Those are a laundry list of things not happening

No it isn’t.

Awesome news! Extend my thanks to all involved with the fix.

Tailors aren’t getting dawnweaver and dusk weaver drops too.

How about fixing the fact that no dawnweaver or duskweaver cloth has been dropping for tailors the last 9 days?

You’re right actually lol. It’s def not.

im surprised it hasnt been mentioned yet, and i know this is an old thread, but you could have probably done all those steps on PTR to avoid the cost
