I see a clear divide between the playerbase

It seems like half the players want traditional wow with mmo mechanics and half want a competitive focused esports game even though the game isnt balanced around that. Do people really believe that this game needs to be one or the other or is there a possibility that both could be right?

Half of the esports games in todays world are catering to the 1% and last time i checked 1% is a lot lower than 99.

I don’t think we have any data showing what percentage of players prefer what playstyle. Aside from 3 pillar high achievers, I don’t think Blizzard has ever even paid attention to who plays, who stays, and who leaves and why.

I guess you could track by the % of players who have achieved the major milestones in different areas of the game.

You can track 3 pillar content. That tells you nothing about people who have not achieved the “major milestones”, which is the majority.

im sure someone linked to a page that showed the % of players that achieved certain achievements a while back im trying to find it you could filter by parts of the game

Being able to /5 leave makes the game look more traditional. At least the way of seeing /2 and major hub socialization look as common as it did back then. Huge bonus to eradicate all of that boosting garbage which destroyed the mass socialization for the better amount of 2-3 expansions.

It’ll be a tad bit too hard to get that old-school feel with how overly prominent boosting has become. Most of the population has grown accustomed to boosting, so legitimacy and awe-factor went poof - mostly degraded to a personal achievement and isn’t worth showing or telling others about - game evolve(d)(s)? Tansmogging takes away the “at a glance” gear/progression judgement (Totally grown accustomed to transmogging though, but still remember that OG “at a glance” from when transmogging wasn’t a thing.)

That is what comes to mind when considering esports/traditional aspects to me.

While i agree with the possibility that both are right, that unfortunately hasnt happened with the current development team. I think them specializing on one thing more means that that thing will be better quality…just look at the state of pvp in the last 3 expansions vs the pve content. No new maps in 4 years? Nice support.

This contradicts itself

All they need to do is come back out with blacklisting. Goodbye Deepwind Gorge and Kotmogu!

Severely miss OG Deepwind Gorge. New one, while pretty graphics, is just TOO MASSIVE.

If you’d like to show us your data that illustrates how the majority of players are in the top 1%, I would like to see it.

Pretty much this, as long as it remains profitable which it is, they will do as they wish…I am guessing they have a idea what the vast majority play style is but beyond that they could care less

Where are you getting your info that players who participate in the 3 pillars are just 1% of the player base? Your entire arguement falls on itself when you say

then follow it up with

or

all my friends left because they want to hang out with friends while doing content. Not this yelling and screaming for being .007% too low in damage etc etc. Once the last of them left I stopped leveling my tank because tanking for strangers—I tried— was horrible. They act like I am their employee that I should do what they say— screw that.

I was responding to a post that talked about “major milestones”. In my opinion, doing 1 mythic dungeon in a season is not a “major milestone”. But hey, if you need to bloat your numbers to make it appear that the majority of players are high achievers like the ones who you hang out with, feel free.

Perhaps you have a very low bar for what is a “major milestone”, like “subscribing 2 months in a row”.

Most players are not progression raiders. Most players do not push high keys. Most players are not glads. These people who achieve major milestones are the minority.

Sorry, average players are still average.

Destroyed.

I would say major milestones are mythic raiding, ksm and glad for the 3 major pillars. Not really into the pvp scene or mplus but raiding is my thing. As for last season we can see players with mythic raid kills thanks to achieves and wowprog, That number is 1,970,382 unique. Gunna say thats more than 1% of the player base

How many where alts…

If you truly believe that 2 million individual players did a mythic raid last season that is insanity.

Its frankly impossible to say but even if lets say on an exteme each person had 5 alts. That would still be 394,076. That’s with 5 alts also doing the content and thats a very generous stretch

90% of those or more were just old raid farming, i see 10,638
