I rolled on an RP server, now what?

That’s good advice.

Good write up, thanks. Looking forward to adventures on Bloodsail Bucaneers as a non roleplayer.

If you’re going to play Horde look me up; Dromtar and Elsinora.

But wait… what if my rp character is a special agent assassin for my faction, tasked with going into the main Capitol and killing as many members of my opposing faction? This was a legit thing in olden days sneaking in killing someone even if they were unarmed or in an extremely vulnerable state. (most of the time this was the case.)

Grob is actually west coast, though I would have loved it to have been central/eastern when connecting from Texas. Only 1 RP-PvP server though, so #choices.

That’s the problem with rp “rules.” Role-playing should and could be whatever you make it. Perhaps my characters story is that I was a real life 2019 wow player who got transported into the game and my character knows about modern things irl like cell phones etc.

It’s touchy because role-play is kind of left up to the imagination and it’s not really fair to assume one person is right and one is wrong when it comes down to it.

Why not make it an assassination of a specific high ranking target deep within the city?? Could easily be set up between alliance / horde players for a good RP event, especially if recorded.

I will play both but my horde will be my main.

I lived through that too, as both the victim and aggressor, but on a regular PVP realm. Doing this is explicity supported by Blizz when signing onto a PVP/RP-PVP realm and is not “griefing” type behavior. However; since RP-PVP realms are RP and not just PVP, a little consideration for people who want to RP in cities is a nice gesture. It’s just a kind gesture. Consider this; from a narrative standpoint, would opposing factions really be able to get into the heavily defended capital cities? Story-wise they’re pretty safe spaces for the civilians to live and armed forces to take R+R. The second the City Defense warning goes off and folks respond, all bets are off; have fun attacking and defending.

I think it’s best to just let anyone here without gatekeeping. You’ll get better people that way. A mix of people that are pleasant but don’t RP, people that watch, and people that actively RP make for a good server.

Else it makes for a dead server.

100% this. A little consideration, understanding, and respect for each other goes a loooooong way in promoting a healthy, happy, and thriving server.

A number of non-RPers/RP curious folks have expressed interest in playing on an RP server and my hopes for my OP were simply to help those folks know more about what life’s like on an RP server and share the basic social norms to better enjoy their time there. A healthy server requires all kinds of respectful players, RPer and non-RPer alike.

I have high hopes that the RP community will learn from its mistakes and troubles in the past and that everyone will be able to build a strong server community. Please feel free to contact me in-game when you’re on BB; Elsinora and Dromtar are who I’ll be playing most.

BB might have more city RP like wra and mg. And grob will definitely have more open wpvp between RPPvP guilds or just regular guilds. I’m rolling on Grobbulus. Although I like seeing a lot of RP in Stormwind, I don’t want to sit there every day doing that. I want to participate in wrppvp events.

With things like no flying, warmode, RPPvP is the way to go.

Grobb is for winners. It’s that simple.

how many people are rolling on bloodsail? the count is low. I was surprised by this

Yeah. And you can always pve on Grobbulus anyway lol

Because of the way the populations are being handled we really dont have a good idea of how big the population is going to be. Overall i would say that they would be lower than non RP servers buy by how much is kinda up in the air.

On the plus side if the population stabilizes we could be the first servers to have layering removed.

I’m a big fan of the real-life-player-transported-into-a-game-world genre so I think this is a pretty cool idea. However; it’s super meta and jarring, so you can expect a lot of pushback from people if you’re public about it. RP in retail has been turned on its head with the injection of the WoD Alternate Universe plots, which at least Hordeside on WrA, has created a lot of conflict that has negatively impacted the ability for people to constructively RP with everyone else. Personally, I’d have a lot of difficulty interacting with someone who talks about IRL things and would not want to be a part of that sort of RP as the injection of IRL topics and modes of speech would take me out of the world that I’m trying to RP being a part of, separate from the real world. That being said, it would be an awesome concept for a guild and would provide for a rich long-term guild narrative. For example…

Guild Isekai is made up of IRL people somehow transported into Azeroth who struggle to integrate into the greater societies and world. Due to some off-camera events they realize that while they can talk about IRL things amongst themselves (guild chat) they need to pretend to be regular citizens in order to build alliances and integrate into the overall society to survive in the war-torn world. This creates two equally rich facets for RP; within-guild interactions focused around coming to terms with their situation at first then eventually finding ways to make the Alliance or Horde their home. The second would be the more meta (IRL person RPing as an IRL person transported to Azeroth, who has to RP with the wider community as if they were natives) and overcoming social difficulties of interacting with the regular, non-IRL, citizenry at their level (interacting with everyone else in the regular RP sense when in public). This would be a bests-of-both-worlds situation; you get to play the cool concept that you like while also interacting with the RP community in a way that doesn’t create conflict and bring out the “That’s Not How You RP!” crowd.

RP-PVE servers tend to have the lowest populations in general, especially in the beginning. We can likely expect an increase as time goes on.

There is no RP safe space on RPPVP. If anything, not flagging for PVP in capitals is pretty anti-immersion.
