I regret rolling Hunter

I wanted to check out wrath cause sl got boring and I normally play hunter so figured id roll one and it was fun leveling, its fun in dungeons and its boring in raids but I mainly wanted to pvp with it and my god the pvp for hunter is so frustrating.

Idk if it maybe the seasons we’re in or w/e but I never had this much trouble trying to play against melees, warriors and DKs both are too oppressive and stick on me and even with disengage and ability to kite I feel like in arena specifically its almost impossible to beat these comps like arms/hpala unless I play out of my mind 24/7.

plus the keybinds are also way too much like 30+ for arena.

idk, im kinda over it. bout to reroll warrior or something and just go meta lol

Wrath is the melee xpac. That’s why all you see are paladins, DK’s, warriors and the like. We get better as we progress and eventually go MM. Still, don’t expect to enjoy your PvP.

What comp are you playing in arena? Hunters are great but extremely comp reliant. If we know what comp your playing, maybe we can offer some strats or suggestions?

Hunter are actually pretty sick. Easy to gear (less loot competition) and dominate BGs. Fantastic cc aswell. It’s also a very high skill cap in wotlk. Pairs well with ret pally in arena.

and caster apparently, destro and ele are monsters.

Ret/MM

Nah like it’s not a super bad class or anything, its just arena seem really stressful. I didnt know how wotlk hunter was gonna be like but it’s just way too many buttons to keep track of, like I get that if played out of your mind it’s like a 10/10 unbeatable spec but theres other specs that can seemingly do everything that I can do but better with far less effort which kinda tilts me lol

Yeah they can be kinda sweaty. I think in general arena can be pretty tough. From what I heard the skill level between 1600-2000 is not that much different. (Once again heard) If it’s just about arena, then yeah I could see you picking up another class, that would return your efforts. Or maybe switching to 3s or 5s and seeing if it changes things.

Been playing a hunter since 2004 and I agree with you completely on this for wrath. Hunters are extremely difficult to perform well into the 2000s in wrath, whereas on a DK I was able to push into it with ease without having several years of experience as a hunter.

On the PVE side though, they are the easiest to gear, at least on Skyfury so there’s that. The rotation and mechanics are a lot better than hunters in vanilla and TBC by miles.

Hunters in wrath vs a DK (PVP) reminds me of the state of hunters in mythic + when demon hunters were released. Yes I could pull the same numbers on my hunter as I could with my DH overall but it took perfect execution and very very optimal dungeon knowledge compared to just knowing my basic rotation as a DH.

That’s just how it is sometimes ¯_(ツ)_/¯

This is 100% correct. You’ve hit the nail on the head. That’s just how some expansions are unfortunately and I feel ya cuz I love hunters so much that I usually have more than one leveled for some reason :joy:

It’s like PVP as an arcane mage. Sure some people can make it look easy and doable but they’re also rank 1 players and could prolly beat people with a wooden stick.

so since making this post I kinda decided to level a lock, I played WM for a little bit and I tried Destro with like a basic understanding of it’s rotation and I was slapping kids. Affi is also insane.

Plus it has a pet so like some of my hunter pet management skills also translate.

ima prolly do warlock for classic and go hunter for retail cause DF hunter tuning is looking spicy rn

I think that is your best, closest bet. I actually went mage for PvP and it’s been tough. I didn’t realize how tough mages were to execute on things. Maybe it’s just this expansion as well, since melee is so strong.

Either way, you’ll learn a lot more about other classes playing them and it’ll make PvP a lot easier as a result!

Good luck!

ty you too!

Hunters have always been hard to play in pvp what were you expecting? A class that is forced to kite and trap to function and can’t shoot when there’s an unholy dk or arms warrior on your nuts and you’re wondering how you ended up here?

As you said should’ve just played arms yourself if you didn’t realize Hunter is a skill based Pvp class (how)

Also stop right where you stand if you want to play lock it’s a very very bad idea.

If you think arms warrior dunking on you was hard as hunter then you’ll be in for a fun surprise as warlock

This is the real reason people are mad. They can’t just 2 shot someone from 50+ yards like they can in retail.

I don’t think anyone’s mad. I certainly knew what to expect but I enjoy the PvE aspect of playing a hunter. The upside is hunters are at least better than they become in Cata where they are absolute bottom of the barrel.

I remember being at Blizzcon and watching one of the first arena tournaments live. I believe only 1 or 2 teams didn’t have a beast mastery hunter and enhancement shaman. All the matches were just blow all CDs and zerg. I don’t think any of them lasting more than 2 minutes.

Things have changed since then but the burst potential and CC immunity is still very potent I’m sure. Just gotta find the right team. And for the other 2 specs, well hunter has always had a very high skill ceiling and are punished extremely hard for mistakes.

But I haven’t pvped since MoP so whatever.

I am raiding as a hunter in classic and do not find it boring at all. You’re probably not trapweaving because doing so adds a uniquely complex level of risk/reward that you don’t see in many other specs. And properly maximizing survival for max lock n load procs is a challenge.

If you just hit your CDs and do your prior/SS filler then yeah, it’s going to be boring. You get back what you put in.

a hunter should never lose against casters at least, unless they’re an spriest or afflock because blizzard still haven’t got resil to actually reduce dot damage

Feeling the same way as a warlock right now

Melee just have too much sticking power

Lock and hunter are the two least represented classes in 2’s for the top 1000 players by a good margin. They are not very good in that bracket and harder to play. Both have a higher skill floor for sure. Hunter particularly has arguably the highest skill cap in arena in the game. Both classes are a LOT better in 3’s, especially warlock because they slot in well into the ele/hpal/x meta. LSP the best 3’s comp in the game right now and likely through the rest of wrath. Hunter can go full easymode and spec BM and play beastcleave for easier rating. Playing mm hunter as cupid cleave, jungle cleave, or other comps definitely is not easy and requires an experienced hunter and team around him.

Hunter is awesome, it just has a high skill ceiling and is comp dependent. For 3s, Cupid and PHD are incredibly good. For 2s ret/mm or preg/mm is the way to go and are definitely a meta comp. You just get countered by hpal comps which sucks in the sense that you’ll see a bunch of hpal/warrior and hpal/dks.

Does your ret understand he is your support and peel for you?
