After two weeks with my main I felt it was a good point to spend some time on my horde alt. But I didn’t want to run the campaign again. I didn’t enjoy it in beta, didn’t enjoy it live, and had little interest in doing it again on any of my alts. So after running quickly through the maw I chose threads of fate. Figured it’d be a good alternative to leveling through the campaign.
But after two days (a few hours over two days) I’ve realized just how painful it’s going to be to level this way. Considering the choice is irrevocable, it’s killed my motivation to level my alts entirely.
My expectation of threads was that it would be a means to level quicker. That blizzard was introducing it as a means for players like me who’d played the story fully once already, had a quick means to level alts and just play. But that’s not the case. The only way threads can become this is if you’re able to put together a dungeon group and speed blast through them repeatedly for several hours. Something most players won’t be able to do.
I don’t have the energy to fight or argue. Just hoping blizzard sees this and gives further consideration to what they were trying to do with threads. If the intent was in line with my expectation, then I suggest they fell short of the mark. And if the intent was other than my expectation, well, then I guess I’ll have to live with my main and be done with it.

I’m pretty sure this was never the case. It’s an alternative way to level. Not a quicker one.

I hit level 55 on my Horde DK and I wish I would have gone story mode.

This is why I’m thinking of trying it on an alt that I don’t care if I level or not, just to see if I like it or not.

I like I can do things at random with it, but not sure if threads was faster honestly. Someone somewhere mentioned threads is faster with a group.
Lol same here. I was reading earlier and saw you can’t go back once you make the choice so I figured I would not go for broke on a alt I care about.
I don’t mind the slower leveling I just wish that the quests were still there so you could skip a zone. I eenjoyed the campaign except Bastion unfortunitly thats the first zone so I have to do it without threads of fate.
I’d love to go back and do the night fae or venthyr again.

Out of curiosity is this your experience as a healer? My leaving seems slower for sure but as I can insta que it’s not so bad but I’m wondering if it’s because you have had bad groups
Threads of fate has been an awful leveling experience. Way too little xp for World Quests, bonus areas, etc. Blizzard really missed the mark.

i dont mind it but its mainly due to the 2 alt 60s i leveled i was able to weave in lfg often in between the quests
Dont do it.
If you have no gripes on using Azeroth Auto-Pilot, story leveling is drastically faster.
You’re basically killing bears or killing bears while collecting their asses all the way to 60 in repetitious fashion. It is terrible.

Every time this post comes up, people mention WQs/Bonus areas, but don’t seem to be focusing on side quests.
There are enough side quests to level you most of the way from 50-60, and they often line up with completing bonus areas at the same time.
Not to mention you can get anima / rep on alts as you level that saves you time at 60.

I don’t the intent was to give players a way to speed level their alts right at the start of the expansion. They have never done that, and it would be very surprising if they ever did.
The point as far as I understand it is to give players who are sick of the campaign the opportunity to level other than through the campaign – to not be “on rails” in the way that the campaign is, and be free to move around, play what and how you want and so on. It is generally slower than the campaign, as you see, unless you dungeon spam (and people have done that, even solo, but it requires a tank to do that or perhaps, to a lesser extent, a healer). That’s the price you pay for the freedom of not being on rails like you are in the campaign.
Why did they bother with this? Because WoW has not been on rails like this in a long time, where zones are literally locked out from you until you reach level X, and so on. Some people really don’t like that aspect, and Threads is there for them. But it isn’t meant for a way to speed level alts once you’ve completed the story on your main.

I’m using Threads of Fate on my demon hunter, it seems fine to me. It may not be quicker, but it’s different. He’s Venthyr, he’s at… 58, now, I think, and I’ve barely step foot out of Revendreth. Which is what I wanted.
(I should note that I didn’t start Threads of Fate until he was level 52.)

That statement sounds so weird, given the fact that before prepatch, DKs were created at level 55
I chose Threads of Fate because I simply wasn’t interested in repeating the whole main story just yet. I’m just about done with Loremaster on my DK, so I know where a lot of the side quests are and how to do them, but I’ll just mix it up a bit, do a little here, a little there. I cannot stand repetition and you might rightly think “why are you playing this game?” I can stand it in small doses to accomplish a specific, obtainable goal. For instance, Invincible for me is not obtainable. But the Ivory Cloud Serpent is. I try to find the path of least resistance so my brain doesn’t hurt

Ill be hoenst with you i dont know why anyone would pick threads of fate. Its makes absolutely no sense.
Just going through the zones there were hardly any quests that where not part of the campaign story, you are effectively gimping your self so badly if you choose not to do it, and besides the main campaign boosts you so quickly.

I kinda did my threads of fate in a weird way. I saw people saying there was a lack of stuff to do. So I waited until I hit 59 then turned it on. Since I did a lot in bastion, already had the first quest thing done, turned it in, was nearly 60% into my level, did a few world quests that had gear before the gear WQ’s went away as soon as I hit 60 it seems.
So I missed out on quite a lot of gear. Where my main was at 144 ilevel by the time I hit 60, my alt was 120. Also, I have a weird bug where the maw in the skybox is broken and shows the pre-revendreth version. so I don’t have a red maw.
Next time if I do it, I’ll probably do threads of fate at 57/58 instead. At least get more gear.

I think they probably made a mistake with Threads, considering it’s not really faster and locks you out of the story completely. Hopefully they make a change to it soon, doing the story out of order shouldn’t matter much considering you’ve already cleared it before.
