I Really Wish There Was An Option To Slow Leveling Down

Yes yes yes I know you can “lock” your XP that’s not what I’m wishing for. What I’m wishing for is the option to make your leveling a lot slower than it is right now. As more of someone who plays the game “singleplayer” leveling is one of the best parts of the game. I love the feeling of leveling while progressing through the game and questing. Traveling the world on a new character and going through all the zones and seeing my character progress was great. But now leveling is so fast unless you lock your experience you will be ready go into the current expansion in like 8 hours. It makes me a bit sad because the only way to experience the questing zones is if I lock my XP and sacrifice the feeling of character progression through leveling if I really want a enjoyable questing experience.

For me it’s like if I loaded up a new game of Skyrim but this time my skills leveled up 50 times faster quickly trivializing the game. Most probably won’t understand but I really wish this was a “mode” available.

Shoves 1000 crafted iron daggers under the table

Though really, it might be kind of fun to have a “heroic” or “mythic” leveling that’s overall slower and a bit harder. Maybe give a cosmetic or title or something for people who go through it.

Chromie Time was a nice first step, but yes I think leveling could use some more love. It’s probably the most patched-together and janky part of the game’s experience.

If nothing else they could stand to put add options to the XP lock NPC to instead change the XP multiplier to 0.25x, 0.5x, 0.75x, or 1.0x.

I’ve advocated for something in this vein in the past, because it’s a feature I’d use. It could be an option on Chromie Time that changes mobs to not be damage sponges, but to have actual teeth so you have to use your brain a little when fighting them, as used to be common in many parts of the leveling experience in vanilla — you wouldn’t be able to pull a whole beachfull of murlocs and win like you can now.

it would be nice. afterall they did give classic soul of iron.

As an altoholic this would be huge for me.

It’d be great to get things like the fear of groups of Murlocs, going into caves in general, Defias Pillagers, etc. that many of us had back in the day in Vanilla.

Which Classic is fun for that sort of stuff, but I do like all the cosmetic stuff of modern WoW too so it’d be nice to get it here as well.

What? track your progression in quests done, or zones completed, there are other ways to track progression if you just want the story and feeling kind of thing

Slow leveling was terrible and I am GLAD it’s gone

Want slow? Classic exists

Nothing like transmogging as a Pillager to go and take out Pillagers.

It’d be very nice it was the one aspect of WOTLK classic I enjoyed. I got to 80 and then left cause I wasn’t interested in it beyond that. But retail has the opportunity to be way better with visuals and class design in general which is why I want something like that. Plus there are toooons of zones to progress through.

This is all pointless though. Tracking quests done or zones completed doesn’t give me anything legitimate, leveling however gives me new abilities and talents which therefore equal more power.

This is why I said option this thread is not a call to force slower leveling on anyone. Just the option to have it in the game.

This would be nice. It’s really sad how leveling up has slowly become a mechanic that is completely pointless and while I understand why that is the case a mechanic like that may help breathe some much needed life into leveling and for those that prefer more of a solo experience to endgame pillars.

There are a few options you can take to throw a bit of sand in your own gears.

  • No heirlooms.
  • For that matter, no equipping drops or quest rewards. No getting nice things from the auction house. Use only gear you can buy from vendors.
  • Minimize rested XP by refusing to log out in inns or cities.

This should make leveling a bit slower. Not difficult, not challenging — the only way to not level in WoW is to quit — but slow.

Yes, this. Give us the option to level a “hardcore” character that has slower XP gains, more difficult enemies, ect. You can even make it a permadeath mode where while leveling you get a buff on your character and if at any point you die you lose the buff. Making it to level cap with the buff on your class unlocks an all new transmog set for each class. Also extend Chromie Time to level cap. Stop telling us how to play the game.

This is a pipe dream unfortunately because blizzard is always going to be in the interest of consolidating people as much as possible into the new expansion.

An optional hardcore mode for leveling would be awesome.

While we’re at it, since they did a bunch of work to bring the Classic pre-Cata world up to the modern infrastructure I would also love to be able to choose that to level in even if it would probably be the slowest of any of them.

Oh oh oh how about a “PRESTIGE MODE” where you reset your level to one and keep all your gear, but you can just do it again for achievements.

This is a good idea.

Maybe add an option so exp accumulates at 1/10 the normal rate.

That’s way way way too slow. I’d take 1/6th.

Make it a slider so the player can choose how slow they want exp gain to be.

If they can make the option available in a vacuum so it doesn’t affect anyone else, then sure. But as a universal implementation, hell no. They tried this in 7.2.5 and it was the biggest crap show this game has ever had.

And once you’re in the current expansion, you’ll hit 70 by the end of zone 2 (out of 4) unless you make a point of skipping half the quests you’re offered.

yes. that’s exactly what I said. it’s just an option.
