Don’t get me wrong. I like WoW. But man. A quick way to kill hype for me in a boss fight is if the music is boring. To me, music should be something of a reward or a treat while you’re playing.
Maybe I’ve just been spoiled with other games like Undertale / Deltarune or Devil May Cry.
Even something like Torghast had this issue. A dungeon clearing event and it has some of the most boring music. Where is the hype? Its all just kinda dull atmosphere stuff.
Having stuff like songs changing as you go thru phases would be fun. Or stuff like this
Heck the song even helps you time your jumps. Thats rad
The Giratina one is extra fun because the music even has a fake out. Just a “OH YOU THOUGHT IT WAS OVER?” reveal and i just love stuff like that.
It just bums me out when I have to fetch my own music to keep my energy up

I think I liked wows zone music the best
But like ffxivs music in dungeons and bosses etc tho I didn’t play enough to really definitively make up my mind but from what I did play I liked their dungeon music more

Some encounters do this. Council of Blood for example. And I think final bosses do this too.
WoW has had some great boss themes. I really liked this one,
(Really wish they went more experimental like that one more often.)
Also, a classic,
And I really like the Sha theme in MoP.
But nah, I kinda agree. The big confrontation themes ain’t really all that exciting to me.

Apparently this is for a bosses final phase and man. I would get so freaking pumped if I got to hear it.
Folks gotta remember sometimes hype music can actually make you play better because you get a confidence boost. Or you’re having too much fun with the music to stress and possibly make mistakes

Haven’t listened to wow music since wotlk. I mostly have a playlist in background while I play.

And I wish we didn’t have to do that.
Dull music to me just sounds like someones phoning it in and that’s why it bugs me so much.
Meanwhile a lot of gamers have strong memories SPECIFICALLY because of music
Like hearing One Winged Angel start up. Or the piano when you’re fighting Cynthia in Pokemon. Or Megalovania
I think it’s tricky because FF is always hyper over the top. Hell, Sephiroth’s special move in FF7 is literally blowing up the entire Milky Way galaxy. Music like Sephirot’s theme there really works because of that.
I really don’t see that kind of style meshing with WoW too much. I love FF14’s OST, don’t get me started on Ravana’s theme, but it really fits that universe better.
I wouldn’t know what any games boss music sounds like. Long prog sessions listening to the same music for hours isn’t a great time for me.
On the subject, the pots and pans banging together still haunts my dreams

I know I know but at least the folks working on that game care about the stuff you’re fighting.
My headcanon is the music is so dull during potentially epic moments is because the player character is like: seriously? this again?
That said I think that some bosses definitely should have their own themes. At the very least the last boss of each expansion should have a defining one.
YO I LOVE THAT THEME. Good choice. Pity I didn’t get to hear much of it because I always killed Seymour quickly
EVEN FIGHTING GAMES HAVE BETTER MUSIC

I think the only time WoW had the perfect boss to music ratio was Blackhand. Sure, it was also the score of the title expansion, but man it worked.
I liked the music on Alysrazor
Like as the fight went on the different music notes changed etc and it became more and more difficult as the fight went on etc. It was very good. Like having music timed up with a boss fight’s phases to me would work out great (like your first video).
Firelands was the one rare time the music was chaotic and energetic.

Oh for sure and it worked great with the instance and the bosses.
Another nice thing with the more fun boss themes. You get fans making covers or remixes of it. You keep the hype going by letting fans have fun.

I would love to see another sound themed boss like in Blackwing Decent the one where if you made too much sound you instant died.
That boss was cool and maybe having a boss that you have to hit things on a beat would be a different way of doing things? Dunno but yeah the remixes thing sounds fun too.
Something like Hi Fi Rush would be dope but thats like the one time you gotta be like “nah we can’t do that on a mmo. someones gonna mess it up or never learn” lol
Okay I’m cheating a little because this song is from The Prodigy and not something originally made. There is another theme they made for this fight but I just think this versions more catchy
Edit: they as in the game devs. Not The Prodigy

Some of my favorite boss music has been from the Souls series games and Bloodborne.
