I really hope they try to revamp Torghast instead of abandoning it

It honestly has so much potential. I really hope they expand on it instead of leaving it to die.

I think going back to the beta state would be a good start

No. It can go burn in a fire.

Good discussion

It’s the torghast version of a discussion.

We should make Torghast better, much like we should make this discussion better

I think it could be interesting if they used the concept for dungeons and raids. Make it so parts switch around and change so it’s not the same run over and over.

If they want something similar to Torghast to have any long-term place in WoW, they’re going to have to just straight up rip Palace of the Dead from FFXIV. Very few people want to sit and grind trivial mobs in the same bland hallways endlessly for hours at max level, but if it provides another means of experience to shake up leveling, it’ll get praised. Options are good. Forced endgame nonsense isn’t.

PS: I hate both Torghast and PotD. It’s a braindead form of content even when it gets scaled up higher in FFXIV.

This, and it actually dropped something worthwhile. Like M+ lvl gear.

The idea was great, the execution was meh.

For the amount of effort that went into it, and the fact it was marketed as one of the main features of SL, it was sort of pushed off to the side.

If your going to ask me to commit to 30 min or so to a run, it really needs to have more impact.

Or better yet, make every 3rd” safe floor” a save point so we can come back, take a break.

Also, with all the great themes in wow it would be better, if they recreated it, if it had more variety in each wing, or each floor, rather than green undead stuff or red undead stuff or grey undead stuff.

Ideally, this should have been made as an alternate speed leveling route, with a max level challenge mode, rather than what it tries to be. Would have been much better.

I think having gear attached to it would make it feel even more forced. It should be all cosmetics/mounts/toys, etc

They could either learn from this and keep the concept of the feature and the fun things (cosmetics, mounts, toys, titles and pets) along with fun achievements and remove the player power of any kind and those timers…

Or they can just take the worst of it like from Legion with the artifact power type that we still have to deal with instead of keeping the visual cosmetic appeal of the stuff. Ya know… the fun stuff.

They can do it. The mage tower is the perfect example there. That’s what torghast could have been.

On the rewards front, without making something seem ‘mandatory’, what if there was a weekly Lesser Vault that gave you a choice of loot once per week based on one of the following:

  • What was the most difficult dungeon of the week excluding M+?
    • Item level matches the dungeon loot
  • What was your best Torghast wing during the week?
    • Layer 1 is similar to heroic dungeon gear
    • Layer 8 (or better) is similar to mythic (0) gear
    • Layers 2-7 scale in-between
  • And maybe something for non-rated PvP just to be fair.

Its only a choice of three rewards (so no bonus for doing a bazillion dungeons) and all are plainly inferior to the Greater Vault so no one will do this on their main.

Its a catch-up mechanism for alts played infrequently, and also allows Torghast to have the option of limited gear progression without it ever feeling mandatory (because doing a simple heroic dungeon is just as good).

The version we have on live is the revamped version, lol.

We’ll have played with Torghast for more than a year by the time 9.2 comes out. Its time to move on from Torghast IMO.

I mean, they can revamp it again, no?

Why?

This version is “good enough”, and usually Blizzard moves on from a design when they’ve finally fixed it.

First: Make it not mandatory.
Second: Add more rewards ( transmog, and such )
Third: Add gear drop from bosses in Torghast so people can use it as leveling method and to get gear for alts.

The fact that the only ways to get gear while leveling are as quest rewards and dungeon drops suggests that devs don’t really want players to level in invasions, pet battles, etc. If they did there would be regular gear drops. Or vendors.

Invasions drop gear and torghast is not a pet battle.

Which invasions drop gear? Legion invasions have never dropped gear for players that are sub Legion max, which is currently 45 but was 110 in Legion. An invasion world quest will occasionally reward a piece of 50+ gear, but there isn’t one such quest every invasion.

BfA faction assaults have never dropped gear for levelers. The piece of gear a 50 gets for completing an assault is currently ilvl 60, so useless even for doing world quests.

Rewards are different for max levels and sub max levels for both BfA faction assault and Legion invasion world quests, but to see this you have to view them on both characters.

BfA n’zoth assaults are end content. They have never been intended for leveling.

If Torghast was a decent solo gearing progression path like BfA Horrific Visions were, I could honestly picture myself spending a lot of time there, learning on my own, mastering the various tricks and such and slowly getting better.

As it stands though, it’s basically worthless non-content to me.
