I really don't understand Zaralek Cavern event timers

I’ve been waiting for the smelly soup/cauldron/whatever event on a character now for almost 4 hours now. Many other events have started and ended several times over (frick, the crumbling statue is the record-holder at 5 times now) in this time span.

As I have done all these things on multiple max level characters, alts with zero prior experience (no matter the level!) can see all the rares and all the events on the map.

I feel like I’m going crazy.

EDIT: Not this character, new one, never been there before, has done zero events.

EDIT 2: I just realized several other events have never spawned, either, including putting the snail fire out, the one that you have to channel earth and fire to summon an elemental, and the one where you channel the dragon skulls.

All the events are on a weekly lockout. Are you sure you haven’t done it this week on this toon? I think there’s a weakaura on Wowhead that tracks if you’ve completed the events for the week.

You either did it already, or are waiting for one in an area of the zone that’s not currently active.

It isn’t this character, it’s on a character that, before today, has never been there and has done zero events.

Well then, I don’t know if I can help further. Sorry.

My favorite is when I’m waiting on Researchers and the spawn timer counts down to 0, the event doesn’t spawn, and the timer goes back up.

I think this might be different. Researcher’s Under Fire starts on the half hour. It will always be at 1:30, 2:30 etc. The timer of the actual eventis different from the timer of when the next event starts.

Yeah that’s not the problem.

The Cavern is divided into five “zones”. Each zone’s rares and events (and their resets) are tied to it being active.

Each day, one zone is marked “inactive” and this rotates (except for Caldera, which is always “active” and as such its rares and events are on an actual weekly reset). When a zone is inactive, its rares and events will not spawn that day; on the following day, your lockout for that zone’s rares and events will be reset as it becomes active again. As a result, all non-Caldera rares and events effectively have a maximum 4-day lockout.

What is most likely for the OP given the nature of the character never having visited is that particular zone was inactive for the day.

There’s an addon called Where the Zaralek that will display which events are available. It’s very useful as it helps keep track of what events you’ve already done (each one can only be completed once a week for the reward) and which events are available to be done that day.

This isn’t accurate. All events outside the Caldera can be completed once every 4 days; only Caldera events are locked to 7 days because the Caldera never goes into the “inactive” state.

This is correct.

And the benefits of this design choice are completely lost on me. It’s a very bizarre decision. I can’t even think of an immersion-adjacent argument for this to exist.

If you’re switching to alts thst could be it each alt has a different mode they not the same , all of mine are different so changing to got one quest doesn’t mean it will be the same for the others.
