I read lore books

I read lore books knowingly that it’s absolutely terrible but do it out of comfort.

Like Ive been playing wow so long that the universe is just comforting to me. But holy moly is this some of the most bland and boring stuff.

Was curious if anyone else is like this?

My friend has the books so I use it as an excuse to visit . That turns into a discussion and keeps it exciting.

Spent like 2 hours talking about belf history

can you tell me a random piece of lore that just made you go ‘ohhhhhhhh’

Thrall once lifted ji-fire paw like moe lifts Barney and threw him through a portal to escape danger.

WoW doesn’t have lore, and it hasn’t had lore since maybe MoP. Emphasis on the maybe considering MoP’s story was heavily influenced by the Chinese Market at the time(not just the Pandas, gotta remember this was also when China built that huge WoW theme park).

What WoW has now are interchangeable bullet points that can easily be ignored or rewritten in future updates.

Shadow Lands is the tombstone of WoWs lore. The story ended with Legion.

Did Ji-firepaw miraculously return just behind Thrall after he threw him through the portal?

And OP I loved listening to the audio books during my cross country drives when I was moving around years ago. The lore in parts is pretty good but there’s a lot of holes for sure.

My s/o has most of the books and seems to like them, they spend hours lecturing me about the lore lol.

I prefer the YouTube lore with visuals lol.

The lore books are better than the in-game lore.

I’ve been trying to read the books, but just don’t seem to have the time.

It’s like comfort food.
A ham and cheese croissant hot pocket; tasty and evocative of times gone by, but ultimately empty.

Ill read the actual books that are the current story.
But i wont read stuff like chronicles and the new dragon book.

I did try to read shadows rising but i stopped half way through. It was lame. So so lame.

I really enjoyed tides of war and before the storm.
Those are my favourites.

I love the lore books, and think some of it is the best written stuff I’ve read.

For context, yes I’m also into stories like Berserk, Song of Ice and Fire, LOTR, and a lot of Cyberpunk / Bladerunner esque stories. WoW gets a lot of crap for its bad writing (similar to Shounen Anime that’ve gone on too long) but plenty of it is excellent stuff. Personally I feel the best written WoW story is “Tides of War”. The one that covers the bombing of Theramore in detail. Very grimdark moments in that one, and overall it’s simply a well told and written story. Granted, it’s easier to pickup if you’re familiar with the scope of WoW lore and the history leading up to it.

I feel WoW is one of the best fantasy IP’s that’s a legitimate jack of all trades. The story has extremely grimdark moments (Remember Teretha being SA’ed by Blackmoore, then beheaded and tossed at Thrall who was a slave at the time?) Or perhaps, our fan favorite Arthas. One of my favorite moments of the “Rise of the Lich King” book is that a little girl’s spirit who Arthas murdered, decides to help him because she still has innocence. She sees Arthas in pain and suffering after Sylvanas’ sneak attack. So she guides him to safety, not caring for the fact he was the monster who slaughtered them. It was a pretty tragic thing to read in that book, but a telling moment.

There’s so much bleakness in WoW if you dig deep enough. However, there’s lots of heartfelt moments too like Dragonflight. Idk, I find it all to be really great, especially the rich history of the world dating back decades. The books are really great at bringing those otherwise more forgotten zones and cultures to life.
