But when i farming things that are Orange, which would normally provide a skill level, I don’t get any levels. Since we are in BFA do i need to have BFA Mining in order for all lower level stuff to grant a level?

For clarification (not trying to ask a stupid question), you are mining nodes specifically in Catacylsm era zones, and not in BFA right?
like the Twilight Highlands or Uldum?
Fully open up the mining skill tab, don’t just look on the profession journal page.
The main window will only display the highest expansion level profession that you know. It won’t show any progress from previous expansion skill gains.
You’d have to open up the full mining window to check specifically for Cata mining gains.
For Cata, you’re looking for Obsidium and Elementium ores.

They altered the gathering professions.
Each expansion now has its own self contained leveling system.
So in order to level your skill you need to have the mining for that expansion.

OP’s right.
Something is bugged with Cata mining. I noticed it constantly on my alts. You pretty much have to ignore Cata nodes.
Yup and they reward close to nothing, already checked.
Yeah, if I remember there was also a lot of smelting that needed to be done in Cata to get mining up. I remember farming Obsidium for days.
Hmmm, I’m thinking of earning exp on alts. Nevermind. I couldn’t speak for earning levels in the mining itself.
I haven’t had any issue skilling up cataclysm mining. What type of node are you trying to mine? Are you sure it’s from cata? Do you have cataclysm mining trained? Is it maxed already?
I know these are all dumb questions but I’m stumped.
