With that sort of statement it would be disingenuous to include expansion sub spike.
Oh I bet it WILL happen! Even tho many think people barely play retail these days and the subs are below 1 million.

Millions returned for WoD and then millions left within 3 months, same with BFA.
Kind of irrelevant how many people play at the start, it’s how well the expansion can hold players.

Ugh BfA called, it sold over 3 mil on day one.
Late in an expansion with an extended content drought, especially 8.3 where a lot of people hated assaults and horrific visions, I have no doubt there were fewer than 1 million subscribing.
The real question is, how many who came back because of the hype will still be here at the 3 month point, or even the 1 month point. How many will leave when they find they will need to spam mythic+ dungeons to gear up to do world quests?

The number still around after their 30 day sub is more important. BfA had millions return, too.
Getting a large spike in players at the release of an expansion isn’t impressive.
Keeping them would be.

Millions would definitely return.
The real question is if they would stay for long. Many players dont understand an MMO game. It is a VERY long game. Many impatient players who thinks this game can be finished within a month or two would be frustrated. MMO is no longer the most popular genre these days.

Yes doubt me all you want but I will be right! Millions shall partake of this expansion hahahahahaa.
I do enjoy seeing old friends at the start of each shiny, new expansion. I don’t mind if they leave again. I am accustomed to the ebb and flow. It’s kind of relaxing. Like watching the ocean roll in and out…

The amount of lag/server slow down will show how much of expac releases boss learned from previous expacs.
