I remember when i started which was 2.4 and I was amazed at the level of saltiness I saw.
Only in the last few years have they begun to punish for it.
I see people silenced by players using current systems for unpopular opinions.

I keep my pie hole polite, and wish they would ban bots and buyers of big gold.
They silence based off reports, so it’s really however much they care.
I’ve had friends banned for dropping excessive F bombs back in TBC and Wrath lol.
I think it’s also Blizzard fault for not going hard against gold buyers.

since I’ve been playing (tbc launch) people have been punished for inappropriate language use. Any improper silencing is due to player abuse of the system. Hopefully their new reporting system will be less abuseable for those fringe cases of improperly reported players.
Blizz does however need to crack down on bots and gold buying. Hopefully they figure out how to outsmart those people.
You totally forgot to mention all the rampant cheats/bots that flood malicious gold into the economy in the first place.
GDKP is a system that really took over and spoiled the game in general, for anyone who wants to do PVE, can play with friends in a guild from years ago, or literally have to be really, really lucky to get a good guild. you can be part, otherwise you were forced to PUG and after a certain period of classic there are no more PUGS without GDKP, this completely destroyed any desire to do PVE.

Thank you for being honest about the subject. Too many can’t even admit what is going on. I do disagree though that GDKPs and Blizzard are not to blame. Both are. GDKPs provide the reason for RMT, and Blizzard provides the means while looking the other way on enforcement. Blizzard could easily make RMT harder by not selling boosts to the botters or having in-game GMs actually police the game. It’s extremely easy to see bots farming 24/7 in BF/AC/Ramps…yet Blizz does nothing. People who run and organize GDKPs are also to blame because they facilitate and prey upon gaming addictions of people who need to buy BiS. Saying GDKPs are not the problem is like saying drug producers are not the problem for drug addicts. Yes, yes they are, and to deny responsibility plays a large part in what is not only wrong with gaming culture but society at large these days. People won’t take responsibility for their actions. It’s always someone else’s fault. You could not facilitate GDKPs, yet you do, then blame people who buy gear. No, that’s dishonest. Both parties are at fault. Sure someone else could fill the void for GDKP, but you don’t have to. Maybe if enough people took personal responsibility for what they do there would be far less GDKPs and less incentive to buy BiS.

GDKP and RDF are two sides of the same coin. If anything GDKP’s are the monster that evolved from the ease of access that was born with RDF.
"I don’t have time to manually make a group or travel to the instance" and “I don’t have time to grind out the gold and wait for the item to drop” are both born from the same logic that is “don’t have time, make the game easier for me now”
